Just watched Episode 8 the Last Jedi. Really enjoyed it. Thought it was better than Episode 7.

Po and Chewy should get a TV show just them in the Falcon.

Only a really really thick person would be so in favour of abolishing education, doing away with things that define our advancement as a species like spelling that everyone else takes for granted. It's taken thousands of years to refine languages to where they are today but fuck it, let's just not bother any more. That's such a "thick person" way of looking at it.

Thick person eh.
How about you lack the imagination to understand how advancement works.
It took thousands of years to come up with the quill...should we keep using it because of that?
How about the loom or Latin or the bow and arrow.
They are replaced by better tools...we are building a tool to replace memory, it will replace education....it has to, anything else is going backwards.
Here we have the greatest computer on the planet..it can analyse a trillion inputs at once to draw conclusions, spelling any word in any language would use 0.0000000000000001% of its power.
But no lets keep teaching people the same shit over and over again.

The quill is a writing instrument, it's not like we gave up writing (although I expect you'd do away with that as well).

In your awful-sounding future full of uneducated drones, how would one go about becoming a physicist or a mathematician or a polyglot? Would it just be a race to see who could tap the question into their device first?

Education has too much snobbery in it and with that becomes the notion its an absolute, of course people will learn new things, and learning to use what ever communication method is used isnt going anywhere fast until we plug our brains into some collective consciousness.
People struggle with it because they cant see past the now, you mentioned tapping in, as if the future will be keyboards or touchscreens., they are hopelessly slow and computers wont be arsed waiting for us to keep up.
It has allready happened, testing people used to be no help, then you could use a slide rule, then a calculator, now the internet and eventually testing itself will be pointless, it's easier to get it from the worldwide data store, then why bother the human with it anyway.
I want a new skyscraper there, months of consultations, meeting, drawings, high salary employees, people to check their work.
Fuck that..one click and drag, there you go, 500 milliseconds later, it's all done, supplies ordered, authorities computers updated, problems solved, every tiny bit right down to the amount of plugs in the bathrooms done.
Who the fuck is going to be interested in some apprentice architect who learned half of what he should know inbetween beers and shags.

They are not mistakes..the program is following instructions percectly.
Not in ai learning.

And i would say that if someone believes they have coded a machine to do a task and its doesnt its a mistake. The machine is fulfilling the mistake by the coder.

Third of fruit and veg 'too ugly to sell'

This was in part because they did not meet consumers' expectations of how they should look.

consumers expectations? I couldn't give a fuck what my fruit and veg looks like as long as it tastes the same. its not the consumer driving this, its the supermarkets surely. I cannot believe we throw away 50 million tonnes of food across Europe because the supermarkets think it 'looks funny', just sell it cheaper on the weird looking fruit and veg aisle so us less discerning shoppers can buy that instead.

Its how the supermarkets have conditioned the uneducated people.

They have been made to believe their veg should look a certain way.

Wasnt always like this 40 years ago you got nobbly carrots and such.

It is the supermarkets and if what was in them wasnt so perfect then everyone would be forced to buy it.

They shouldnt put the ‘perfect’ goods on sale separate to the other stuff it should be conbined as it is in nature. Tbh we dont need all the mud and stuff washed off either. Field to shop shouldnt require much processing. Outwith rotten and remove the creepy crawlies is all that needs.

Heres something to consider.

The world’s best Checkers, Chess, Scrabble, Backgammon, and Othello players are now all ANI systems.

Increasingly, education isn’t offering social mobility. This isn’t an argument against education, but we’re definitely heading to a point where we have to talk about what education is for.

Like monkeys typing the works of Shakespeare, @Job’s spouting occasionally contains coherent (if badly spelled) points; AI is coming and it is going to have a dramatic effect, particularly on the middle classes. Previously “safe” careers like law and medicine will be transformed by AI and the number of doctors required will ultimately fall. Not “disappear” but definitely fall.

However, this doesn’t mean education is unnecessary; quite the reverse, it means that those who do want to be part of the ultimately diminished work force better be educated as fuck because their decision-making will be empirically measured all the time. There will also remain opportunities in creative roles (AIs work by sampling large data sets and so can be “creative” through analysing previous trends and synthesising solutions based on “things people like already”, but that still leaves a gap for genuine originality).

Biggest problem with AI is that it will potentially concentrate so much power and wealth in the hands of so few people that it simply collapses capitalism altogether; if the vast majority of us are out of work, where does the money to pay these AI/robot run companies come from?

Been to the doctors about 5 times lately, their language has changed from telling me what I need to do to asking me what I want to do. Doesn't really need a person anymore since I'm doing their jobs for them.

(source: high blood pressure that I had to measure and track myself then submit to said doctor who said "yep, that's above normal", standard blood tests who's analysis could be fully automated and only referred to a human by exception, then asking me what I wanted to do and which drug to try first)

high blood pressure
Take up MTB m8. Your blood pressure will plummet (along with your resting heart rate) and your summits-per-day will improve. :)

Oh. And ditch all additional salt (hard to do if you ever buy food you don't have to cook from scratch). Your taste buds will change.

This is the thing dude, my BP is already too high after all the changes I've made so I'm now at:

- no caffeine
- don't smoke
- don't drink
- not overweight
- eat raw foods known for helping BP (oats, dried fruit, bananas, beets, cruciferous veggies)
- don't eat processed shite full of sodium (crisps, fast food, ready meals)
- removed salt from diet where possible (e.g. less bread)
- get my heart-rate up three / four times a week with a good 30 minute brisk walk plus resistance training at home

Still too high. I may as well smoke, drink and eat bacon for breakfast lunch and dinner!

Dems the right changes right there. Longevity and consistency will help - bp should come down slowly.

Only thing I can suggest is that brisk walk could turn in to a no-pain no-gain 30-min fell-run. Don't underestimate the value of fucking unpleasant flogging thyself.

It's why I MTB and not run. When it gets hard running I stop. When it gets hard on the MTB I know there's a ridiculously fun down I'd miss out on. And by the time I'm fucked I'm still a fair way away from home :)

I'm probably in a world of #metoo related trouble for saying this, but...
Asia Argento accused of paying off actor who says she sexually assaulted him aged 17

17 year old gets seduced by 37 year old actress and is "traumatised" so much he gets a 400 grand payoff. I find myself...doubtful.
Double standards.

The only reason it's less "traumatic" for men of that age than women is that women are slut-shamed and told that they've been abused and what happened in that consensual coming-together was "wrong" whereas men have the emotional fallback that they're "real men", because they've porked something.

But hey, dumb bitch, why do people take pictures of them having sex? I don't get it - it's really widespread apparently, but I've never ever been bothered.

What am I missing out on Freddies? :)

Jesus fuk..watching that Parrot paralympian doing his family tree.
They go to Liverpool and every fucking shot was off the most decrepid part of the most abondoned dockland they could find, they have spent billions on the Liverpool.docks, but no they film on the last bit thats still run down..then they visited his great grandads road..oh look lets stand by a pile of rubbish , then go visit the road.
He ends up standing in the foyer of one of Liverpools top 4 star hotels, but the shots from behind and zoomed in on some broken windows on a nearby building.
Then they go to the cambridge side of his family...oh look someone punting down the river surrounded by weeping willows.

He was still under the age of consent, so to the letter of the law (US state) he is a victim. She was 21 in Cannes when Weinstein allegedy raped her. This happened just before the Cannes thing.

People in glass houses...

The fact that the whole #metoo thing, in which she was a high profile speaker, turned into a witchhunt for many falsely accused people based on a single tweeted allegation. She deserves all she gets in my view, as Scouse stated double standards...

#metoo machine has already started. Time to sit back and watch then spin this.

#MeToo leaders say Asia Argento abuse claim should not discredit movement

This from madness herself:

She is already defending her and rightly getting flmaed for it.

I’m aware of the hypocrisy involved, where I’m dubious is this guy claiming he was traumatised, because we all know the truth here and he was 17, not seven.

And yes, double standards, but y’know, biology.
