How would a wanky old bridge in America affect HS2?

Er..it was part of a multi million dollar upgraded high speed line..and I could make a a ten quid piece of metal into a train derailler with a hacksaw and a vice, then stick it anywhere along the track and fire a 200mph 100 ton projectile with a thousand people on board into a housing estate.
Its just a good reminder how vunerable trains are, and with Isis actively promoting such attacks..someone must be getting nervous.

They even sell the parts.

Meanwhile, in the real world.

It appears the train was doing 80 into a corner that was rated at 30...so probable human error.

Its about time the unions were fucked off and they sat a PC in the chair, the trains are probably one of easiest things on the planet to automate.

Yes, they turned off the auto speed limiter it seems.
A high speed train track with corners you have to slow down for or youll roll off and die doesnt sound very clever...more like a racetrack.

Modern trains (not UK trains) are fast and reliable.

ofc they have to slow down for bends, due to the awkward rules of physics.

The section of track was previously used for freight trains, so it was an existing part that was re-used for the new line. The new train went over the speed limit for that section of track, and, well, I guess some terrorist must have edited the plans to use old track instead of building a new one and re-programmed it all to ignore the limits... or the driver fucked up. One or the other...

Isis also created a book on how to kill everyone in every way, so therefore they're responsible for all future deaths!

Of all the ways to cause some major traveller carnage, derailment has to be the easiest.
A small non complicated device that can fit in a backpack, thousands of miles of unprotected track, no risk to operator, fit and leave, little chance of detection.

Apart from entering and leaving I cant think of any bends on the M6 I would have to slow down for, even at 100mph.

Yes, but again, physics.

I'm not even going to bother explaining, I feel I would have better luck explaining it to my cat.

Im simply having a go at trains, who would build a high speed line with old bends in it...only trains.
Please dont tell me HS2 is going to have bends it has to slow down for.

Actually, UK trains are a damn sight better than anyone will give them credit for - even being viewed across Europe as a success story.

They are dirty, expensive and slow. Its by far and away cheaper and quicker to hire a car for most journeys.

As a check, Northampton to Manchester

£144-£250 for an open return, 2 hour train journey, plus whatever travelling either end, I know to get to the station from (say, my house) takes a good 20-30 minutes...

By road, centre of town to centre of Manchester 2.45

~£50 a day for a car, plus fuel and no sitting with the plebs.

Oh no don;t get me wrong, unless I'm going into a city centre for a night out I will avoid trains like the plague as, well, trains are a good place to catch the plague and are usually full of knobbers, but as an example of the breed, our trains aren't actually anywhere near as bad as Comrade Corbyn would have you believe.

I use the train sometimes to get to London, it's brilliant. Just over 2 hours from Manchester to Euston, nice and quiet, good food if you want it. Wifi as well (although I don't bother, even though mobile coverage keeps cutting out). And costs less than £100 for a return.

If I were to drive, it'd take me close to 4 hours. I'd have to park the car too, suffer the odd traffic jam, and spend all those 4 hours being able to do nothing other than listen to the radio. And then I'd have to do it all again, on the way back. Fuck that. Fuel for that journey in my car is about £80, plus all the other motoring costs like depreciation, servicing, tyres, insurance, etc.

My local train station is about 2 minutes from my front door. Sometimes, when the ticket office is shut, the collector doesn't get to my carriage before I get back off again, so I pay nothing. And even if I do pay, to Manchester and back is less than a fiver. Still massively cheaper than driving.

The very notion of having a car on the path, all paid for, then walking past it to stand at a bus stop to get to the station, to then wait for a train, get on with all the plebs, use the disgusting toilets, get another bus at the other end, walk to where I'm going and then not have my car at the other end to save 30 mins..is beyond my comprehension.
I 'd rather meander along the back roads, checking out our beautfiul countryside, stop for a pub lunch, nip in and see something that catches my eye, listen to music full tilt, change the temperature to my exact liking, scratch my ass, pick my nose, fart with abandon, have a car full of my stuff, just leave an hour earlier.
Its a no brainer for me..and that's why only 10% of journeys are made by train, they are shit.

‘Shit’ only accurate word for trains

Transport for London chief: commuter trains into capital are 'shit'

Hello

I am a Principal Asset Manager in one of the leading international banks. I respectfully seek your sincere consent in this profitable proposal that i will explain to you.

Nine (9) years ago, precisely on Nov 6th, 2008, an Expatriate Oil consultant/contractor with a Chinese mineral cooperation, deposited a numbered sum of Twenty Million United States Dollars(20,000,000 USD) in my branch valid for twelve calender months. We did not hear from him since then.

However On further inquiries we found out He was involved in an accident which means he died intestate, All paper works in my bank revealed that he did not declare any next of kin or relations. This means that no one will ever come for this money since its been nine years. I can be able to make you the beneficiary of these funds.

For all your troubles I propose that we split the money in half. Once I get your willingness and response I will give you further information on this huge deal, What I require is that you DO NOT betray my confidence.

We should act swiftly on this if we are going to achieve it.

I wait your urgent response

Regards,
Andy
