NFL backing the players is understandable. They have been in trouble with them over concussion assessments and player well being. Also the mercenary nature of teams moving cities.

Still only themselves, viewer figures down = less ad revenue = less money for owners = wages for players

Survey: Protests top reason NFL ratings dipped

Good move Sadiq Khan.

Easy win as the proles'll want to put the boot in on the middle classes and the middle classes have probably been waiting for this to come anyway.
Tosser! Just replaced ours with a new bigger one :) Although Falmouth is hardly an urban area with bad air. I thought the problem was with coal not wood. Yes, I am aware most are dual fuel but they could just stop selling coal in cities.

Ah so the greenies don't like wood burning stoves now either?

Awesome - think I'll buy 3. And a V8 Diesel to bring them home from the shops in.

Even better, modify it to burn hippies instead of wood?

Its more the localised pollution that they have an issue in cities are shit holes enough, without added smog.

Well, that didn't make any sense. Which is what happens when you alt tab to do something half way through a post.

In short. This one is about localised pollution and air quality, the wood smoke is interfering with the smell of other people's shit.

It's been on the cards for ages tbh. Wood's a renewable resource for some uses, big horrible carbon and particulate health hazard for others - as pretty much any decent doctor or scientist will tell you.

Don't know why an obvious health hazard which affects loads of people can't be dealt with sensibly in this way without knee-jerk "oooh the hippies" reaction. There's nearly 8 billion of us now, often living in tiny areas on top of each other. Proper health legislation is not only sensible, but pre-requisite.

Put it this way: We have a joined up sewer system because living in each other's shit is *really* bad for people's health. This is exactly the same. We can heat people's homes cleanly and safely and should do.

It's a small, sensible, sacrifice.

Wood is considered a renewable resource if its from a well managed source

This.

How on earth do people think it works?

You grow a tree, it absorbs Co2.

Unless its the tree of infinite life, that wood will die eventually and decompose, releasing said Co2, or you burn it, it releases the same amount of Co2 as went in.

That said, if you don't buy wood from a sustainable source then you are a cunt.

Most of mine is from dead standing, which would only rot and release the Co2 anyway.

Ive always thought this wood burner craze was a bit odd, we spent decades getting rid of coal fires and now they let people burn any shit they like as long as its in some 1000 quid trendy stove.
Our next door neighbour has one and it stinks...

Decent enough method for heating a room without having to burn gas.

The great thing about our fireplace is that the bed in our bedroom is next to the chimney breast so it acts as kind of radiator. Living room toasty, bedroom pleasantly warm. Saves us money, saves burning non-renewable gas.

Some of the really fancy woodburners can heat water and such too, quite efficient. Expensive and not as useful as a combi-boiler but I guess it depends how sustainable you want to be. And I mean proper sustainable, not moaning about the rainforests on twitter.

Good old liberal Canada.

Compulsory sterilization in Canada - Wikipedia

What's funny about the eugenics in that wiki is that the fears back in the 1800s have exactly played out in the UK now, remainers constantly refer to the uneducated, simple minded people who voted incorrectly in the referendum.
So denouncing eugenics came to bite the libs in the ass.

"In 1926 Dr. Adolf Lorenz of Vancouver stated, "our sense of humanity is destroying humanity. We are allowing more and more of the poorer human stock to survive and reproduce. '' Sterilization was the best method to decrease the number of feeble-minded being produced. Once the feeble-minded were sterilized and the "problem cured."
