Honestly I'd expect to be challenged if I was flying it that close to something organised involving children without at least letting somebody know beforehand (even if I was all the way over there). People just don't understand how little you can actually make out with a GoPro from the air - the lens is so wide everything looks like ants unless you're like <10m up. Mine is 23 yrs old and still going strong, although I bet its not the most efficient thing in the world, and the cable to the plug does get very hot?

If you've been fucking it, that's probably where you've gone wrong

seriously though, if it's tripped the electrics that badly, and the whole thing is hot, it's likely beyond repair, so I'd say best bet is to get looking at new ones. Quite likely the motor and/or transformer has gone. Possible the motor seized, which would cause the whole thing to heat up, and eventually blow the motor and take a lot out with it.
