yes its a plucky underdog group of billionaires, oil companies and tobacco companies versus the evil poorly funded scientists at universities around the world

Lolz. I think you'll find Oil and other Energy companies are investing plenty in Climate Change and Alternative Energy sources - they want the future revenue stream when we eventually move away from Fossil Fuels. The problem is, Fossil Fuels have been such an awesome source of energy that replacing them is going to prove pretty tough. Renewables are not really the answer - we could cover our country in ugly, noisy bird slicing windmills (with the pre-requisite fleet of backup diesel generators for when the wind doesn't blow), and cover the Sahara in Solar Panels (and all the lovely toxic chemicals that go into them and we would still struggle to make the power we need - not to mention the needs of the developing world.

A few nuclear reactors would go a long way and give us lots of carbon free electricity, but the Greenies have decided they don't like them either. So really, the only realistic options are Fossil Fuels, or get investing in Hydrogen or Fusion.

I also love this idea that the Green lobby are poorly funded. Have you seen Al Gore's lovely beach house (shows how seriously he's taking the sea level rise threat) or the size of the subsidies we're throwing at renewables to make them work? And yet, despite all this funding, not a single prediction made by the models has come true. So forgive me if I remain a little on the sceptical side until they locate their arse and their elbow.

It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.

@Job - RE Nicholas Winton.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-33769486

Is it fair that this bloke gets remembered as a hero because he dropped bombs in a movie-sellable fashion which flooded towns and killed innocents?

Basically would you be so happy to not call this guy a hero because there's heavy coverage on what he did?
No where in that article did they call him a hero. The dam thing was famous because of the innovation and riskiness of delivering a unique payload.

He was brave, as were any of the airforce in what were primative machines and navigation and bad odds of coming back.

He tried to, so he's a hero.

Actually he's a hero because Bomber Command pilots basically kept flying until they were killed/captured or the war ended. American crews at least knew they did 30 missions and that was it; the RAF guys knew they had an evens chance of dying and still did it anyway. You can argue about the morals of strategic bombing, but the actual crews took the highest risks of any allied servicemen in the War.

My original point was that @Job was saying that people like Nicholas Winton didn't deserve the title of being a 'hero' because he had massive media coverage, and was in relative safety, it was unfair to those who ended up face down in the sand.

The question I'm asking is he anymore less or more of a hero than any other pilot that flew?

Just been for a top haircut.

back massage whilst hair being washed, shampooed twice, conditioned, head massage then cut whilst drinking a beer. I now look sharp and feel very relaxed!

top way to end the day at work.

Technically in the faroe islands, denmark is responsible for defence/oil etc but they are crazy northern sea hillbillys

And afaik they use pretty humane methods of killing the whales (like thestun guns for pigs)

Not that i dont agree with you its unnecessary seeing as the meat is mostly contaminated these days so cant be eaten so what's the point
