Only if you look at the atmosphere. The oceans are warming up quite quickly. And considering that it takes a hell of a lot more energy to warm water than air, it's cause for concern.

That second study didn't half make me laugh. Satellite measurements (the most accurate we have) find no change in surface temperature, but if we adjust some historical data to make everything look a bit cooler in the past - hey presto, everything's getting warmer. If you can't see the issue with this, I really don't think you understand how science is supposed to work. That study was also quite widely debunked the day after it was published, which to me suggests a few holes in it.

Mind you the 97% consensus idea has been systematically taken apart several times, yet The Guardian are still using that particularly dodgy bit of statistical manipulation, so obviously this has very little to do with figuring out what's actually happening any more.

Also, sea levels have recently been much higher, hence so many ancient ports are now miles inland. Recently, they have also been much lower, hence so many settlements now under water. It ebs and flows, always has, always will. I would worry if it stayed exactly the same.

The last ice age began and ended with no man made cause, I imagine at some point in the next few thousand years we get another ice age.

Tom, TOM you used to agree that the earth went through a cycle and that it was something that it did. You used to agree that was it's way, you used to say that when you had your TVR :eek:

You haven't bloody swapped sides now you are a cyclist lord have you?

Nothing to do with cycling, just the slow realisation that I didn't really understand what I was talking about and that the idea of a global conspiracy involving hundreds, perhaps thousands of scientists, is a bit silly. Yes, I've changed my views somewhat.

BTW, I've been cycling since I was 16. I'm now 43.

Generally science works by observation, the formulation of theories to explain that observation and attempts by others to disprove those theories. Ideas or beliefs, the two words to which the verb "debunk" are most applicable, never last in science because at some point, if the science is wrong, you can be certain that someone will prove it so. And thus, we learn to separate fact from fiction.

Right now there are thousands of people working in entirely unconnected fields releasing their data for peer review. From what I understand, a great deal of that data seems to point to a rise in global co2 emissions being responsible for a wide range of changes in the environment, such as increased ocean acidity.

I guess at some point I realised that my prejudices were getting in the way. I don't know anything about climate science other than the scraps I read here and there, so for me to assume that it's all bullshit and a grand conspiracy is the height of hubris. In short, I was a daft twat and now I'm sensible enough to accept what those in the know tell me.

And my joke (insult(if you scroll down a post or two)) was that you probably used another selfie stick to take the actual picture.

With probably knowing what it was about but still googling it (image search )))): ) put me right off my preparations for a late night snack.

Well, either way there has been 100 additional armed guards deployed to the terminal area of Calais where most of the events are happening.

There is very little evidence of the global warming theory actually playing out in the teal world as yet and it is titannically difficult to conclusively prove, that's why skeptisism survivrs against what should be

@Job - RE Nicholas Winton.

Is it fair that this bloke gets remembered as a hero because he dropped bombs in a movie-sellable fashion which flooded towns and killed innocents?

Basically would you be so happy to not call this guy a hero because there's heavy coverage on what he did?
