They're spectacular, when they actually work! I've been to them for 4 of the last 5 years. We were really close last year (I don't know how well you know Carcassonne but we were between Pont Neuf and Pont Vieux on the opposite side of the river from La Cité) but you have to get there so early to get a good spot. I wanted to be on Pont Neuf but it was already packed when we got there at about 8pm.

Know it quite well. Had a house in Cailhau for many years. Unfortunately not now. Am in France at the moment and the village fete fireworks weren't allowed because of the canicule. it is the hottest I have ever known it. 33* in shade at 8pm in mountains but it's about to break.

Was panicking, couldn't post or use smileys til I realised good old FH had logged me out. Thought @Deebs had meddled!!

I have friends in Cailhau and Cailhavel. Small world.

We had a *lot* of rain last night for the first time in what seems like months and we're also expecting thunderstorms but only ~50% chance of rain. We're so close to the mountains though that the weather just does what the hell it likes tbh, very hard to forecast.

Yes we sold because the weather literally changed. Long hot summers became not so hot. Not so bad for me with school holidays but hubby would come for his 2 weeks and weather could be foul.

It's fuck all to do with "like" - its a clinical chart of healthy and unhealthy weights - used to demonstrate to women what healthy bodies look like.

Because nowadays we're surrounded by fatter people our unconscious opinions become 'normalised' to fatter humans - to the point that healthy normal-weight people get called skinny (or in bohds case - titless).

But we're wrong. Fat is fat - it simply makes no difference to the clinical definition whether 10% or 60% of the population is.

Maybe we've started fancying fatter partners as a result? I don't know. But it seems likely tbh...

You've got that pretty much backwards. Historically standards of beauty have pretty much always been towards fuller figured women; the whole "Reubenesque" thing, because it was a sign of health and wealth. (this also applied to men - being a fatty when you were older was a sign you'd "made it" and was an aspirational look). As calories have got cheap, everyone's got bigger and suddenly the sign of health and wealth has flipped the other way and norms of beauty have centered on less weight (probably because it subconsciously implies the time and money to keep up the effort). There are also other factors at work; the cult of youth (since the 50s) tends to favour more child like figures, and the dominance of gay men in the fashion industry being reflected in the shape of models.

Personally I like me some T&A, but I have had a couple of skinny girlfriends. Only no-no for me is I've never been out with a woman taller than me. I think I'd find that weird.

In the 17th century fat was attractive because it was much harder to be fat and only the rich and powerfu .could afford it...poor people were skinny and tanned, rich were fat and white, now any idiot can get obese and white, hence we now find tanned and slim attractive...what I'm saying is that attraction isn't hard wired, it is attached to the effort put in to any form.
