What I don't understand is why aircraft don't have a system that automatically forces the plane to gain altitude if it gets too close to the ground (that gets shut off during landing procedures) then unless there is a catastrophic failure or an explosion, or it runs out of fuel then there is no way for it to crash into the ground.
If a Ford Focus can park itself then I am fairly sure a system can be introduced to gain altitude on a plane.
Planes can fly automatically to a predetermined route (Flight Management & Autopilot). They can even Autoland given a an airport with the correct beacon -ILS (3 deg glideslope). Essentially the pilot is in control and he can override everything. This sounds like Autopilot was off, the first officer locked the pilot out of the cabin then crashed the plane. Either that or somehow became unconscious with autopilot off. Very odd either way. They need to evaluate the Flight Data Recorder to look at the commanded actions from the cockpit. That will determine if it was intentional or pure bad luck. The fact that the pilot was locked out says to me it was likely intentional action by the co-pilot to switch the door to locked.
