What I don't understand is why aircraft don't have a system that automatically forces the plane to gain altitude if it gets too close to the ground (that gets shut off during landing procedures) then unless there is a catastrophic failure or an explosion, or it runs out of fuel then there is no way for it to crash into the ground.

If a Ford Focus can park itself then I am fairly sure a system can be introduced to gain altitude on a plane.

Planes can fly automatically to a predetermined route (Flight Management & Autopilot). They can even Autoland given a an airport with the correct beacon -ILS (3 deg glideslope). Essentially the pilot is in control and he can override everything. This sounds like Autopilot was off, the first officer locked the pilot out of the cabin then crashed the plane. Either that or somehow became unconscious with autopilot off. Very odd either way. They need to evaluate the Flight Data Recorder to look at the commanded actions from the cockpit. That will determine if it was intentional or pure bad luck. The fact that the pilot was locked out says to me it was likely intentional action by the co-pilot to switch the door to locked.

Never saw this coming. The whole thing was suspicious though, a sudden but steady dive from cruising altitude seemed so "calm".

I would expect authorities to be turning the copilot's life upside down right now.

Possible explanationalso includes; pissbreak, doorjam, co-pilot passes out while auto-pilot off.

They are not providing pilots details for a reason. Likely a massive investigation going through their private lives right now.

I thought that a flight attendant had to go into the cockpit for the duration if one of the pilots wanted to step out but apparently that's just the US and the rules in European aviation are more relaxed. A pilot is allowed to leave the other alone in there for "an absolute minimum time", according to the beeb. I predict that changing within days. Also maybe a system whereby a distress call can be made from outside the cockpit (somehow, and securely, and without potential for abuse) and the door can be unlocked from the ground or a master master code can be given and used.

Have you not seen those epic war movies where they dive to put fires out on engines etc?

Automatic stuff could cause issues tbh, no computer could judge better than a pilot who has trained for years.

Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, I thought he'd look shit personally, he had too much of a baby face - he's scrubbed up quite well though as far as a Lex Luthor look alike goes.

Be a shame if it is because the last Superman film was ace I thought, much better than stuff DC have put out in recent years at least, the guy that plays Superman now does it really well.. if anything I reckon it'll be Ben Affleck that lets the movie down.

The first one was terribad, chock full of plot holes and continuity errors. Not to mention the repetitive action sequences, which basically boiled down to people getting thrown through different things for half an hour. I do agree that the guy made a good superman but the writing, directing and effects were piss poor.

Anything would be an improvement on it.

I doubt that myself(possible to be wrong ofc). He wasn't half bad as daredevil(basically batman) and we've had worse actors for batman before and they've done "alright". Brokeback joker internet rage proved things can't be judged by actor alone.

Would be better if door code stayed active if auto pilot was off, in this instance the pilot would have been able to regain entry.

Anyone watch question time?

Jim Murphy should be running for Labour PM, relatable, down to earth, sense of humour, grew up in a flat in Glasgow, proper Labour individual.

Cue the Tory crew to be like omg dey mek country broke doe.

Watch it, he didn't play the oh the last government did this cards he was just genuine about stuff, I'm paraphrasing here but in regards to immigration he said 'Dont blame the immigrants, blame the government, Tory (at which point a Tory MP opened their mouth) OR Labour government, they should be blamed.)

Purely from the way he came across about being genuine and answering things straight I'd vote for him.

Fuck politicians playing the blame game.

Welsh nationalist woman made a complete tit of herself.

UKIP guy was okay. Just seemed a bit... Robotic at times.

Tory woman was just playing standard last 5 years > last labour government card.

Also. All this shit about Labour not saying they'll rule out a coalition with the SNP etc... Why don't the Tories rule out a coalition with UKIP?
