Aren't we touchy about golf...the game trumps every other by a mile in endless private member clubs taking up huge swathes of land in the most desirable areas..just because there is a council version in your town for the plebs doesn't stop it being elitist...the West Lancs links course carpark by us is entirely filled with Range Rovers and Bentleys

So because The Savoy in London is only accessible to the rich, then staying in a hotel is for the elite? What about Travelodges or Holiday Inns?

Same with golf, there's council courses, pitch & putt, middle road clubs that are cheaper than a sky subscription per year, the more expensive clubs then places like Gleneagles, youth development programmes at courses - there's a huge variety of golfing facilities.

Job your brain really is made of pulped mush of the Daily Mail.

I've got 4 mates who have done very well for themselves... and not a gcse between them..now they are rich they have stopped going the game and taken up golf so they have somewhere nice to park their 60 grand cars.
Even the municipal over the river from us is full of middle class wannabes.

Well they have worked their asses off since they were sixteen..building up businesses..taking the risks..working 7 days a week..if you went on hourly rate over a lifetime I'm probably in the same ballpark.

Just like most other things in society, there are tiers of attainability. If they can afford to pay the fees at an expensive course, then why not? It's no different than going on holiday to Tenerife for a week at £250, or Dubai at £2500 a week - it doesn't mean going on holiday is for the elite just because there are some super expensive ways of doing it.

Rory McIlroy was coached by his dad who worked his ass off to support his early golf days, and it paid off. He was a million miles away from being elite.

The thing is though, are you going to Dubai because you want to visit Dubai, or because it's expensive?

Difference in elitist and not.

That post is so dumb I actually sat here for about a minute wondering which icon to click, disagree, funny, optimistic, bad spelling/grammar or facepalm. Settled on old faithful though.

I'm not in team job here, just saying that elitist people do things due to it being a rich thing to do, not becuse they necessarily think it's something they've always wanted to do.

As in, go to dubai instead of amsterdam because dubai is the so called rich place.

That doesn't mean all rich folk are elitist, but if you base your choices on how rich it looks then yes, you are an elitist.

Or maybe it's Elitist because they want to get away from the English plebs that go to Amsterdam to smoke the Em Jay?

Elitism happened for a reason, it's the same with Golf courses, they're usually expensive, because the Elite are willing to pay for that privilege of being a well-known person, and not being harassed by other people who 'know who are you'

I've been watching Hotel India, and it's about the Taj Palace in Mumbai, and all the celebrities go there, because they're treated like royalty, if you have that kind of wealth, why not use it? - Why would you go to a shitty hotel where the paparazzi will probably bribe the staff to get naked photos of you?

mmm, mmm. Whats that got to do with golf?

Nothing necessarily. Discussions don't have to be -just- about the one given pinpoint issue. It moves around as topic leads to topic. From oranges to apples :p

This simply was a observation, or an opinion, on what elitism is.

@Gwadien There's a point there i agree on, if there's a reason then it's not just elitism, but if you go to a more expensive club when a cheaper option includes the same gain just becaue you'll look richer or something like that then different case.

Never intended to say that rich should slum it just because, by all means use your cash.

people who do things "just because" are tards, not elitist. some bad examples: being elitist is saying "my Dacia Sandero is better than yours because I have the 1.3i and I do not converse with those lesser than myself". being a tard on the other hand, is buying a race horse when you are not in the horse racing business. Imo the really annoying bit is when you combine the two. tbh one of the most non-elitist and tard people I ever met was a guy in New Zealand who turned out to be very, very, rich even though none of that was apparent in any way. I've only ever met one person like that dude. Conversely I meet lots of retarded, elitist, scum-sucking pricks every day often starting the second I walk out the door :(

Fair enough explanation :D

So for example being a rich family guy, who doesn't have a driving lisence, and buying a ferrari?

Why would you not to go to an expensive club, when you have that money to burn?

There's bars out there that are really expensive, but you don't necessarily have to be rich to go there, it just requires you not to behave like a horny 18 year old, and have a bit of decorum.

Fair enough explanation :D

What if said rich guy has a personal driver though? :p

I'm sure my explanation has a tonne of flaws. My point is that going ott with something just because you can is, imo, being a tard, and twice if you're being wasteful. Note I'm not counting collectors or such creatures: they're *doing* something. If you have 1000 Ferrari's because you collect them, fine with me. If you have 1000 Ferrari's just because you can, then my tardometer starts twitching.

I agree, if they're there to waste their money, then their money should be given to better causes, but it's the world we live in, deal with it, or do something about it

VIVA LA REVOLUTION

I like this particular lyric from Scroobius Pip about the 'Revolution'-

'You'd better batter down your bandwidth, because I hear the Revolution is coming'

You can go, ofcourse, but it's being a bit of an elitist just because you have money to burn. You should go there for the atmosphere, people, drinks being better etc. Just like any other bar. Spenditure(when you can spend any amount) shouldn't become a factor.

That's the thing, wealth is a curse, if you're a millionaire, you'll mostly lose your 'old friends', and gain other rich ones, they might be equally nice people, but jealously is the monster that gets to us all, I think you'll find that when there's a bunch of rich people together who are friends, wealth isn't discussed, and there isn't as much jealously, that's why rich people find each others company better than plebs company.

Auchterarder golf club, Perth & Kinross, adjacent to the PGA Centenary at Gleneagles, very nice club with a very well kept course. Cost per year? £515.

Season ticket at Chelsea? £595 for the cheapest.

So what's elite about that?

Nothing. Golf isn't an auto-elite standard :p Like said, not with Job on this.

that's why rich people find each others company better than plebs company.

Well that's the thing, i wouldn't be friends with anyone who treated me different on my wealth. Works other way too, couldn't care less if my friends are millionaires or poor as rats.
