I'm perfectly capable of condemning Israel and ISIS thanks very much. But in doing so, I'm condemning them for different reasons, which require different responses. And arguing "ah well the Jews set up a religious/ethnic state so its OK for the Islamists to do it" is a pretty specious argument since an awful lot of people (including a certain person I notice agreeing with your last post) don't think Israel should be allowed to exist on that basis in the first place! But putting that aside, Israel isn't a threat to us. ISIS is. So fuck 'em.
yeah, I was taking the piss mate.

It annoys me when people are so up for bombing muslims, when they need to see who 'we support'

It's a shame that so many people are inward looking like yourself, because that's the mentality that western governments have, it's not about saving lives, it's about interests, and most people who support action to save lives are drawn into this stupid conflicts because of the aspect of 'saving lives' when really, it's a brilliant scapegoat.

I actually hate sand. I've never really understood the attraction of beaches.

I was going to say you've never been to a decent one then, but you've been around. I find beaches very odd: they tend to mirror me exactly, as in my mood. That said, I'd never swim anywhere that wasnt (sub-)tropical or at least mediterranean because the sea has to look "nice" to me. The gray shite off the NL coast does not, in any way :-/

WTF, are they like the actual questions?
What year did the first world war end, bad enough, but they had two years next to each other?
How about WHO fought the first world war?
What a load of bullshit, it's all about war and politics, how many countries in the EU, who the fuck would know that without looking it up.
Oh and you can drive a 50cc three wheeler in the UK at sixteen, which is still a car..so they got that wrong.

Yes, I do prefer the hotel pool, no sand, bar nearby, usually free, no hassle parking and tramping along looking for a space and if you get too hot, just go back inside.

I've been to some lovely beaches, and I can appreciate them aesthetically (and I actually like the look of "cold" beaches as well as tropical ones), but I just don't want to sit on them and covered in grit . My favourites:

A three wheeler isn't classed as a car, I knew the number of EU members without looking it up, and what's the problem with having two years next to each other?

I don't know why there's a citizenship test to be honest, it's all stupid stuff, Do you care if Piotr Polish gets a passport because he knows who beat Napoleon?

Or do you care that he'll contribute to society and pay his taxes?

tbh the New Zeeland one is much more practical. They wont let me in the country because I have nothing they need, IT people being a dime a dozen. Doctors, nurses, vets, sure. IT? meh.

Its not pedantic, its just facts. And its not exactly difficult, anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size knows the the dates for WWI and WWII (although of course Americans usually get that one wrong). And a date isn't "maths".

Just remember not to leave, or even mention to others at work about it, before you have a new contract signed ;)

Well, not necessarily true. Everyone hasn't learned the dates. As in actually memorised and not just heard from XYZ.

Also it kind of depends on the person, some people remember dates, some names at first mention, some the stats for an destruction warlock in WoW etc.

Moriath, dunno if this means anything to you but I am in the same boat re leaving, except there's no job offer on the other end. This is my 17th year at bigcompany, and I do not know any other working life than this. Today I decided I will leave and it feels AWESOME. Anyway, if you feel like having a private chat or anything, feel free to pm me.

First of all, you'd have to be some kind of hermit living in a box to miss all the WWI stuff across all of British media over the last 12 months, so it would be very difficult not to learn the dates if you didn't know them already. And WWII? Its like the most pervasive war in human history, especially if you're a bloke, games, TV, movies, books, comics, have all done WWII to death, hard to avoid the dates even if you avoided every other significant date in history.

It's not about missing the media, it's about remembering/learning them. Learning and hearing/seeing a date isn't the same thing. Like i said, all people don't remember dates any better then some remember names.

I for example have been part of my brothers birthday way more times then i've seen d-day in the media, yet i still couldn't for the life of me tell you the exact date. Same for a lot of other people and it has nothing to do with how intelligent they are.

The dates of historical events is a general knowledge question..it belongs in a pub quiz not in a questionare to see if you understand Britains history and culture...1917/1918..oh fuck got it wrong..ah well only one year out from 2000.
