Your whole premise seems to be that there's complete inverse correlation between scale of operation and quality of product. .... Initially I put it down to "acquired taste", then I realised (mainly after going to microbreweries in the States a lot more often), that no, I was right, most of it is rubbish......

I definitely find a correlation between the scale of operation and quality of product. However, as I've clearly stated - feel free to drink what you want if you like it.

As for lots being rubbish - some is to taste, some isn't to taste. But someone always likes what I hate.

The fact is - real ale ain't your thing. The vast differences in ales mean that you go through a lot of shit that isn't exactly to your taste. Some people don't like that - and fair enough. However, I do - and loads of people like me do - so fair enough too...

Just because a bunch of beardie-weirdies have set up "rules" based on keeping the club exclusive

Fine. If you don't like the club, don't come in. But don't moan about it either.

Not saying you are - but Brewdog certainly are. Why doesn't Brewdog fuck off and have it's own festivals? I don't see Crabbies complaining about real ale. I don't see Carling or Strongbow or Fosters or Heinekin complaining. - These companies seem content to live and let live - and let people drink what they like.

Brewdog doesn't seem to like that tho. So they can fuck off.

There is a farmer somewhere near Clacton who is meant to make one of the nicest Ales in the Country. But he only makes say 1000 bottles year and it is a hobby. A guy I know said he was a friend so I went along to a beer festival and he just has a pasting table with a sign saying sorry sold out. We sat with him for about two hours and he was such a stereotypical angry old bigot that it was great fun. That was until any of his old regulars showed up. He spend time talking to them and asked about kids ect and always refused their money. Then to a man when they left he would walk back and say "tight cunt only offered me £20. 48 bottles that fucker took". It was a strange time watching him calling everyone within earshot a cunt (including a squaddie who heard and said "excuse me I'm a solider" the farmer replied "OK ActionCunt" throwing a salute). It was only when his wife game back that you saw the farmer was the fake him and the nice old man who makes his 1000 bottles of beer a year for his loyal old customers only was the real guy.

Reading about beer festivals made remember that and it made me smile so I had to write something. I am going on 7 days with 2-3 hours sleep a night now though so if it make no sense I am sorry.

Yes, but the insistence on calling it "real ale" is affectation of the worst kind, since by definition, everything else isn't, which understandably pisses people off.

Disagree. It's a response to a desire in consumers to not drink the big corporate's mass produced shite and fits a gap in the market perfectly.

Ale made by small brewers or even like my mate's homebrew - using ages old traditional methods. I'd drink his overly-hoppy incredibly bitter 4.5%-er over what used to be served up in brewery-owned pubs.

"Real" Ale is a pretty accurate marketing description of the product - evoking ideas of traditional brewing methods - unlike many "ales" that are simply chemicals added to water and not brewed in the traditional way.

Don't think beer can be pretentious? Don't worry here's a CAMRA devotee to prove you wrong!

Think that beer you're drinking is nice? Well I'm sorry, because it wasn't brewed using a method when dysentery and cholera were widespread out of twigs and goat faeces, it isn't I'm afraid. Come to a proper ale festival and drink some "nice" beer, don't let the rapey looking bloke who hasn't washed for 17 years put you off, he puts all his sweat and tears into the beer itself! Cos that's real!

Fuck that shit. The thing I like about Brewdog, apart from the fact it pisses off the pretentious twats who care more about how a beer's made rather than what it tastes like, and the fact the beer they make is lush, are the bars they have set up so we can enjoy the beer. Great atmosphere, great music and great people, much like the microbreweries in California I enjoyed earlier in the year. I'm sorry but a bunch of middle aged bores in a tent talking about brewing techniques really doesn't compare.

That what I'm saying is it?
Actually, I disagree...Not with the taste of their "ale" - some of it tastes very good
I'm not saying "don't drink it" - they do some nice flavoured drinks
as I've clearly stated - feel free to drink what you want if you like it.

Be a bloody boring planet if we liked the same shit. Personally I love proper ales, was lucky when I lived in UK (Hampshire) to have some smaller scale breweries around. Even pubs that produced their own seasonal ales. Personal favourites included Bishops Finger (Kent Brewer Shepperd Neame or sommit like that), Wadworths (Salisbury) Bishop's Tipple, Swordfish and even 6X. When down in Cornwall, surfing and chasing pussy Newquay Steam was a favourite.

No ale snob though, still enjoy a decent Guiness or admit to the occasional pint of Magners with ice on a scorching hot day in Dubai.

Each to their own, just enjoy it :)

I don't like beer at all... not even a little bit.
I have found one kind of beer that's an apple blend, i can never remember it's name and they only have it on one chain of pubs in Sweden (The Bishops Arms). I prefer a mixed drink like Gin and Ginger Ale, or Jack Daniels and Coke. Gin of choice is Bombay Sapphire or when i want to indulge a Tanqueray no. 10 with just one ice cube.

I have to agree that I've never had a Guinness as amazing as the ones I've had in Ireland.
