Anyone ditched Office in favour of Google Docs?

Experiences? How was it? Any obvious issues?

I know one company who did and they wanted to go back. As it is all online if you lose Internet Access you lose everything (I assume there should be a way to store your documents offline). So the other week when BT cut though their internet cable they had 50 people sat there with no documents and no email.

But that is just a ID 10 T error as you can set it with offline access. http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-set-up-and-use-google-docs-offline/ So to me it is just a question of do you have the bandwidth to have everything sync to the cloud.

Well my use of Office is rare anyway: covering letters, CVs, anything formal that needs a written response.

I'm all for the cloud, but I'm not sure i'd bank my productivity on it. I'll uninstall Office and see how I get on!

You'd probably be fine for non urgent plain layout things. Having used word for years I find Google docs to be limiting in terms of choice personally. Maybe use Google docs with drive on your PC to ensure connection errors don't hinder you with a copy of LibreOffice as a backup?

Ditched the new shit office for office 2010

I hear you. I don't understand the new office tbh. So much unnessecary crap, and the needful seems to be buried four options deep in a multi-choice button or something :-(

The new Office is like Windows 8 it is a dick at first but as soon as you get it sorted out it is fine. Plus with the sign in option all your personalised settings transfer to any other machines. I much prefer 2013 now. But I am not a heavy office user mainly email and the odd bit of word / excel.

I do loads of excel stuff and the new one is by far and away the worst version released. Not only does it look crap but it is laid out crap.

recently I had to replace a bunch of stuff in Visio, and it turns out the "replace" is an option in the "Find", and ctrl-H doesn't work. Finding that out easily stole 30 minutes of my life.

Might want to stick a spoiler tag on that, just for the "browsing at work" brigade...

I like Office 2013... except for the fact that i cant see half the damn buttons because someone thought it looked pretty to put white buttons on a white background and all squares with no shading (embossing).

So we have 1080p and 4k is on the horizon.

At what sort of resolution would you be able to freeze any frame in the movie, zoom in on any object in the frame, and be able to pick out details like you were there ?

A single blade of grass in a field
The contours on a finger
The eye colour of a single face in a crowd

We talking gigapixels?

Well um it depends how large these things are in relation to the original frame-size... but megapixels would do it (just think of a 12 or 15mp photo and then imagine that going at 25fps or whatever). Of course with movies you have to factor in compression and motion blur and whatever...... Why am I thinking so much about one of Lamp's airy-fairy questions? :(
