What war was that then? The Americans didn't join WW1 until 1917...

Nicaragua maybe, they were also technically having fisty cuffs with Mexico. Or the soldier could have enlisted with another countries army as some Americans did at the time.

Or it could be that they joined up when America officially entered the war and someone just put the year the war started in the picture, because maybe they just don't give a crap.

They should be pursued for such vagaries!

I agree that full employment is unachievable and unnecessary, but that doesn't mean its an undesirable goal. It just means we have to redesign the nature of "work".

Whilst I'll reserve my argument on the nature of a universal dividend, I think a 20 hour maximum working week would redesign the nature of work.

Jobs for all. A lessening in the concentration of wealth. Job jobbed.

So you managed to get Capitalism, Religion & Royalty into one post. Top marks, that's like the trifecta of trolling ;)

It's a talent ;)

Because it won't run at 1 FPS on Scouses £20k PC, so the industry is useless.

Looks like I should be able to get at least 45fps on my fucking groaning and aging PC at 1920x1200 in Ultramaxlolz0rz and 60+ on FXAA and high.

Turns out an i3 is about as much processing power as you need. Hardly pushing the boundaries eh?

Edit: It's like living in a country full of fat people (like Blighty). "Average" people start to look thin and attractive.

Next thing you know they'll be making games that actually push PCs to the limit.

(to be fair, Watch Dogs is making my PC work harder than it has recently and it looks lovely)

Well, there's a difference between a game just pushing the machine and actual brilliant and beautiful design that looks really really good and uses the PC in a smart way. Dark Souls 1 & 2 looks beautiful but plays great as well for example.

An I3 maybe but coupled with a decent GPU - It depends on the game really, some are more processor heavy than others.

I recently built my PC, I7, 16gig of fast ram, AMD R9 290 GPU - will anything come even close to stretching it in the next couple of years? Unlikely, but there will be a couple of games that are properly optimised for PC that will do and for that reason it is worth the investment.

Its telling that at the moment my game of choice is FTL, an extremely simple game but down right addictive. Though I can also wang on Skyrim and play it in eye watering detail with various official and unofficial mods. As a recent games journo said, playing Skyrim on a console then on a PC is like playing a sequel a couple of years later.
My next purchase will be a higher resolution monitor, probably not 4k but maybe 2k. I read a piece that if you want 4k resolution and constant 60 fps you will need 3 titans - er no thanks!

Consoles still can't do 60fps 1080. Lots of peasants say you can't tell the difference but you can. Had a peasant mate over at the weekend and 1 hour of playing BF4 on my PC has convinced him to rid himself of his PS4 and buy a PC and that isn't even a particularly well optimised game, although the mantle API helps a lot.

My PC will be good for the lifetime of the current crop of consoles, they are already showing their age and they have only been out 6 months (based on old tech)

Square have hinted that they will be releasing more on the PC and some indi games are getting close to the quality of triple A titles. Its a good time to be part of the master race.

Difference between 60 and 100fps was always massive too. But I now play on a 42" telly and cba going for a higher resolution. Bigger screen maybe ;)

That one's only £399 on Overclockers. That's mental compared to how expensive they were not so long ago. The EVOs are supposed to be excellent performers as well.

edit - wtf, I just looked on amazon.fr and the 1tb model is 396,97 € - that works out at about £350. The world's gone mad.

"Looking down your street and seeing something that looks like a funnel cloud has to be an awful feeling. It turns out that this supposed funnel, captured from Leziria Grande at Vila Franca de Xira in Portugal, wasn't really a cloud nor was it actually funnel-shaped. It wasn't even dangerous. However, it could be described as being voracious. It's composed solely of insects. It's not know for sure what kind of bugs makeup this swarm, but they may be red locusts. The swarm extended perhaps 1,000 ft (305 m). It was nearly a quarter of a mile (402 m) away from my position -- I took it with a 200 mm lens. Perspective makes the leading edge of the swarm appear smaller and thus tapered. Photo taken at 6:25 p.m. March 9, 2014."
