The greatest film of all time...

It's a fantasy film you gimpoid ;)

I thought it was a beautiful film, marred by a pretty boring & overly-long tangential trip to the desert at a critical time in the film.

Cut that bit down to 2/3 mins and it'd be a far better film imo.

Yeah, but LOTR is a fantasy (ish) and I liked it :(

It was the flying up trees thing, confused me too much! I'll stick to my Vietnam war movies.

Have to say though, Se7en, Usual Suspects, LOTR, Pulp Fiction and X-Men (if only cos of Ian McKellen) are uber :)

Heh

A lot of people got weirded out by that flying sequence, I didn't, cos I viewed them as being like ancient Jedi (albeit in a non-SW way :) ), and having the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Or summat :D

So I must be the only person who thought LotR was fucking dull?

I mean jeez, I fell asleep half way through (albeit for 2 mins before the fighting picked up). Definitely not a contender for best ever film, only thing going for it was the scenery tbh (which was nice).

Shawshank was fucking awesome and a contender, also fargo (the coen brothers are genius') and the alien/aliens debate is pointless it's like cheese vs ham, one's a suspense thing, tense and thrilling, one's an all out action flick, exciting and fast moving. Both have their merits, the better one is really whichever you prefered.

Oh and black hawk down was fucking shit. Exciting, fun to watch but no plot (american soldiers going in to save the day is not a plot no matter how much you convince anyone), couldnt give a shit about any of the characters, and the worst part was that the direction led you to feel good when certain key somalians <edit> was it somalians? </edit> got mowed down. I feel war flicks should have evolved beyond this by now. Which reminds me, The Thin Red Line is a fucking masterpiece.

Actually I found Aliens to have a bit of both; that combined with a well defined sense of place/atmosphere made me like it so much.

I think Wazz was of much the same opinion.

The two of you can form your own little anti-LotR society.

I hated LotR. I really can't imagine Merry and Pippin being the knights of the thingimabob because of the 'jokers' they are in the film.

Point Break is a fucking fantastic film. If we were to base films on how much you enjoy watching them, Point Break would be one of the greatest films of all time. And yes, that skydiving scene is immense. It's even better with Uncle Amsterdam's Herbal Remedies :)

Oh, and I forgot to add The Big Lebowski.

Sure, it's worthy of a mention, but not one that makes it sound good in any way, shape or form. :p

How anybody can rate alien above aliens is beyond me. Yes it was a groundbreaking film but aliens took it so much further and added action to it. I honestly think that the government should scrap the sa80s and start up a project to develop pulse rifles as standard for the British army, for the sound of them if anything.
But I agree that the other 2 should be erased for history. A guy in a well made monster suit can scares you, a computer animated alien crawling on a wall makes you laugh.

BTW Staz already has had the one on R1 DVD for months now he just doesn't have an R1 DVD player. I know because I do and borrowed his copy :)

I'm also with the aliens group, my favourite film for a long, long time.

Aliens 3 on the other hand is my least favourite film of the four, probably not helped by the fact that thing thing went through a lot of script changes

Prolly cos it's the biggest pile of American back slapping far-fetched shite imaginable.

I'm more willing to suspend disbelief that an alien force could arrive here, rather than the fact that an iMac (or whatever mac it was, who cares, it's a Mac ffs, no-one should know these things, it's the prerogative of a PC owner to ignore any and every Mac in existence) could seamlessly interface with completely alien technology and upload a virus.

Or that the aliens wouldn't have Norton installed like any other well-organised potential despots.

Incorrect: I have a multi region DVD player, I just don't have an NTSC compatible TV as yet. You watched it on your computer, so that doesn't count.

Actually, although I agree in principal, in the film I believe it was stated that they were using our satellites against us, using binary code to do this. So from the films point of view, it would'nt have been impossible to crack whatever code the aliens were using on the grounds that, despite the technological advantages, they were still using binary code.

But apart from that minor point in its favour, the film was wank.

But why does everything attack the US and why are they the ones to save the world everytime? Why cant it be Wales or something? :)

Why would Americans make a film about the Welsh saving the world?

Only the Americans save the world because their film industry isnt all low budget comedy flicks.

Using binary code to communicate with our satellites is one thing, but using a Mac to gain control to their internal ships systems which undoutedly would be running on a completely seperate OS?

Nah.
