Aliens? Everyone knows that Alien is better.

In no particular order:

American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Seven.

And Alien was far better than Aliens. The other two should be erased from memory.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with Summo on this.

Baz Luhrman's modern day adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is the greatest film of all time.

I thought it was crap. until we studied it for English coursework. absolutley amazing the way he has constructed it, arranged it, cast the characters etc.

*hit Munkey with a stupid stick*

WRONG.

:)

Can't say I like Baz at all - his entire style is completely "shit". As to say it's not the kind of thing I like in the slightest, for all the thick people that can't understand what I mean by saying something is shit. ;)

His version of Romeo & Juliet is passable - a bad version of a (potentially) excellent play. I say potentially as I've never seen a good version: it has all the ingredients and essentials - the basic premise of the storyline, the setting and the characters are all fantastic - it's just no-one's ever been able to pull it off.

You're WRONG Robin, WRONG.

(You're wrong about the best pic of Ms Hannigan too, but I'm having trouble finding a digital image of it - I may have to resort to taking a picture of it. :D)

shakespeare is one of the greatest playwritghts of all time (sp?) and as thus we set our standards very high when we view a play/film that uses one of his plays as a basis for the plot. Thus we cannot help but be dissapointed by some aspects of it. Apart from the BBC series that come out quite a while ago. I am very impressed with baz luhrman's interpretation. of course the rest of the stuff he made is shit (god knows why he made the sunscreen tune)

other films I am very impressed with are war films. Blackhawk down was excellent although it diddnt stay true to the book ( due to certain restrctions e.g. afroman with the bullets going through him and the cow disintergtaing under concentrated fir from a mini bird.) Dirty dozen is also a great war classic managing to be both serious and comedic at the same time.

i could go on but I fear my english is going downhill and i have a sneaky suspicion i just invented some words

Blackhawk down was one film I felt I had wasted money on. It had no real story, wasn't really entertaining.

Now don't get me wrong the pyrotechnics were superb but I'd prefer a little character development. In the end I didnt give a toss whether they lived or died. Maybe it's because they were Americans and do what all Americans do in a foreign country...

The Usual Suspects (Kevin Spacey's best film bar none),
Falling Down,
Devil's Advocate,
Memento (mind-blowingly clever).

That's all I can think of at the moment. :)

MT: I haven't actually seen Alien... I guess if you saw it first you'd like it more than the sequal anyway.

Shawshank was very well made but a tad dull imho.

blackhawk down had a plot. american peace keeping force sent .....

go read the book.

blade runner was crap but the directors cut raised the film to extraordinary proportions

1. voiceover was crap
2. happy ending ruined the film
3. the ambiguos ending much better
4. the uncertainty over whether Ford was a roboty person

Greatest films imo:
Aliens (Sp. Ed.)
Dark City
Matrix
Gladiator
Bladerunner
Se7en (Sp. Ed.)
LotR
The Terminator (1 & 2)
Contact
Usual Suspects
Twelve Monkeys

And for sheer entertainment value:

Fifth Element
Charlies Angels
X-Men (although it lacks something)
Spider-Man
Pulp Fiction
The Mummy (not the sequel though, as it was shite)
The Evil Dead trilogy
Mission Impossible (again not the sequel, as it was shite)
Tomb Raider
Toy Story 1 & 2
Men In Black (L.E.)
Shrek
Predator (Sp. Ed.)

Others worthy of mention:

Unbreakable
Memento
The Abyss (Sp. Ed.)
Crouchng Tiger, Hidden Dragon

So, one or two :D

That's a list based on current films and my DVD collection btw.

I have to say that Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the only movie I've ever seen (bar The Mummy) that I've honestly hated. Went to see it, and wanted to walk out halfway through. Way too far-fetched/fantastical for me, tbh. Either that, or it was hyped way too fucking much :)
