Ok well I know the last thread got locked but I didnt get my say and I'm actually seething now, so I really feel I need to post.

Being the posh bastard I am, I was educated in a Private Catholic School (yet not being catholic myself). As such I know a hell of a lot about relgious views. Eventually I came to the conclusion that I would not go to church, read the bible or pray. Yet I still believe I'm a practising Christian, and there are plenty of churches (mostly in the protestant sector) that would agree with me.

So as brynn (who I now find to be the most narrow minded person I have ever 'met') said only chirstians go to heaven, then I'm in the clear!

...Oh wait hang on, some Christian denominations believe that women are a lesser lifeform to men, as are blacks to whites. We did case studies in my school, of churches at the time in America who actually told the church-goers to go out and harras selected females in the community (such as politicians, doctors etc). It got so severe that one commited suicide. They all went to church minimum once a week, prayed twice a day and know the bible inside out.

What Im trying to say, in this rambling, to brynn is, how can you believe in something with such a huge black and white view, when there is probably no other topic on the face of the planet that has more shades of grey?

Also Im curious to know which denomination of Christianity you are? Cristianity is a blanket term for groups who base their beliefs on the ressurection of jesus and the bible (NT included).

So you cant say 'christians believe this' as its clearly wrong. I claim to be a christian, as do you, yet we completely disagree.

A quick question for you tilda.

Is it not true that the term 'FOADIRL' and all other similar terms with the same meaning, cause instant banning on this forum now?

How is telling someone they will burn in hell any different?

This is not an accusation by the way, Im curious to know your oppinion.

Thats my view, I live the life that 'god' told us too because I believ eit to be right. Yet if I wer egod, Id have abandoned humanity by now. As such I dont do the 'god bit' of religion. You may think thats stupid, but well you can sod off

Depends on your motives, if you do it because you are crapping yourself with the fear of hell, then I agree - its stupid. I also believe that if someone spent their whole life doing good because of this, it would be meaningless.

If you do it because you believe in greater things, and you get a sense of 'wholeness' (and all that crap) about it, then you are still happy with how you lead your life. This view I respect even though I dont fully understand it, and would never live it.

However when leading that life you have to be empathatic enough to understand and accept that not everyone believes the same thing. Something Brynn does not do.

As long as people don't hurt other I don't care what they do.

Also I'd like to think that like in the Discworld what you believe will happen when you die happens.

it's an instant warning, followed by a banning when repeated. either report the specific post, or wait till I check up on it tomorrow/monday because I fear I've got quite a busy IRL weekend and spend minimal time here.

This thread is a ticking time bomb, but before it all goes to hell (haha) I would just like to say something.

There is not much point discussing something which cannot be proven to exist or be proven not to exist. There will always be something that one side can say to the other plus countless contradictions. I have never been introduced into any religion in my whole life and believe that we are here by accident and that we have no 'divine purpose' in life. I, however, would not try to sway someone's belief that we may have a divine purpose and that we may have been put on this Earth by a God as I can not prove them to be incorrect.

It's like being at a football match and trying to convince another person that one side will definitely win just because you think that their players are 100 times better than the other team's players, but the truth is that you will never know until the end.

Well I started the thread so I can say what it is, and I dont think its a discussion. Its just me trying to vent the frustration I got from reading Brynns posts. Its also me trying to widen my views and attempt to understand how Brynn can believe what he does, I pictured fundamentalists as redneck idiots. Up until the point where religion got involved, I viewed brynn as an intelligent person.

So I want to know how an intelligent person can be a practising fundamentalist.

Just so long as Brynn explains himself to me before that, then I dont mind. If he really does believe everything the bible says then he has to explain his beliefs to me, its his duty as a 'Christian' to teach others...

...and here I am, young mind, willing to learn.

So I dont want any 'You will go to hell' or 'I believe what I believe, I am offending nobody'.

the point i have been trying to make is people make exceptions for religious people.
