Do you folks mean Free Guy ?
We watched it. It was pretty weak, but something OK to eat our tea to when we wanted to do nothing but properly vegetate.

Wouldn't watch again (or at all if it wasn't for the missus).

No Time To Die. Generally speaking I've not been a fan of the Daniel Craig Bond movies; I thought Skyfall was incoherent and Spectre tedious; but No Time To Die is really rather good. Loads of twists and turns and a few genuine surprises, which is rare in a Bond movie. Definitely worth a watch.

Half agree.

Casino Royale
Skyfall
No Time To Die
Spectre
Others

In that order are my "favourites" of his.

NTTD very much continues where others have left off (No spoilers) and yes, it's worth the watch. What I was excited for turned out to average at best. Some of the set pieces were good. Humour to darkness ratio was okay.

Will I run out to watch it again? Probably not. Is it worth seeing in the cinema? Only if you really really want to see it or are a huge bond fan.

6/10 for a Bond movie.

Spoiling the whole movie:

He didn't deserve the way it ended. That was sad :( The emotional buildup to the end was probably the most redeeming part of the movie.

Rami was no where near as terrifying as I wanted him to be. I felt the PG12 rating hindered it a little.

Waltz felt like they needed him to tie the story together, other than the whole "Go ask Maddy" bit he was pretty much not needed.

I think the whole Spectre murder scene was well played but.. Dunno.. Felt a bit predictable. In a good and bad way.

The set piece in the village square made me laugh, that was probably the best action part of the whole film.

The new 00? No opinions on her. Considering how much screen time she had. Hope her film will be good!

Clearly that's the ending Daniel Craig wanted as much as anything else. I thought the actions scenes were all excellent (the forest one in particular), and while it was clear what was going to happen as soon as Q said "that stuff is in you for life", I still didn't think they'd be brave enough to give us the ending we got.

I genuinely can't work out why people like Skyfall; it has like the single biggest plot hole in movie history, and about a million smaller ones. And Spectre was just dull

So. Dune Review:

Worth it :)

I liked the slow pacing to take its time building up the characters and story but even at 150 minutes it still felt to me there was a *lot* of footage left out of the film. I'd like to see what a directors cut / extended edition added back in. Rebecca Ferguson was the stand out for me.

I thought it was actually quite quickly paced, given all of the complexity of the hugely rich source material. But I know where you're coming from.

I do hope he's got an "extended cut" to come out - but more than that I hope he gets to fund a second movie. I wouldn't be slightly surprised if they just binned it off because "covid". The cinema was pretty empty last night. (And, frankly, I'd have enjoyed it just as much on my TV, without the distractions of people walking in late, being more comfortable and having access to better food - so I can see why).

But I think he did a really very very good job of making a solid "flavour of Dune" and keeping to the basic story. (Unlike Foundation, which is a massive departure)

Why do people still bother with cinemas? Then moan about all the dickheads that make cinema so bad. It's very strange. It's a shit experience, that ruins the film more than anything.

Films will still get made without them, don't listen to the bollocks.

Meh.

I'll probably watch it. I don't think I bothered with the last Toy Story.

Looked utter wank from the trailer.

Same sex interactions on screen? It's an interesting point but it seems like an argument from the 90's. For me - I've never cared. But I've never found it pleasant. My gut reaction to blokes snogging or shagging is "yuck" - because I'm definitely straight. But it wouldn't change my opinion or review of a movie.

But this is a marvel 'cartoon'. It's unlikely going to have a bloke spaffing over another one's back is it? It'll have an m-m kiss or two. So in this day and age noone in Europe's really gonna care. Maybe the yanks.

But it's probably just shit.

Lots of stuff gets bombed because of this.

Fuck, I've seen films get negative reviews before theyre released because of this.

Assuming you are correct (and it's not a given, but we'll assume it).

Marvel films are popcorn entertainment. They're not challenging art. They're leave-your-brain-at-the-door crowd pleasers.

The technical achievement of weaving those films together into the infinity war storyline is not to be underplayed. Really fantastic movies when seen like this. But once Thanos bought it I, personally, have breathed in and gone "now for something different".

You know what you're going to get from Marvel. In and of themselves they're not offering any challenge to their audience. Not bringing anything new to the party so continued involvement is like those people who watch Harry Potter over and over again. It's not because Harry Potter is great - it's now a comfort blanket. An emotional crutch. A warm thing you wrap yourself in to retreat from the world.

Why would people who want to do that be confronted with "yuck"? It turns their comfort blanket into itchy pubes.

My message to them would be: Move on people. You've seen the best Marvel has to offer. It can no longer enrich your life. Find something different.

Its interesting this is the first MCU movie in a very long time that has come out in the US weeks ahead of Europe. I have a sneaking suspicion the reviews would have been more balanced if it had come out over here at the same time.

Will report back when I've seen it, but I have to admit I'm struggling to stay interested in the MCU in general at the moment.

Its just a box ticked. Its all meaningless if it has no context. Marvel films have been dross for a while though.

The D+ shows have generally been good and I'm looking forward to Spider-Man No Way Home and the Doctor Strange movie. I think part of the problems with Eternals (and Shang-Chi) is that everyone has an idea of what a Marvel movie is now and these don't quite fit. "But Guardians of The Galaxy was the same" is usually the response, but I think ten years ago people were less invested in the MCU characters and more prepared to cut new ideas some slack; now everyone is second-guessing everything Marvel are doing.

Just got back from watching Eternals. It was...interesting. Even though its an MCU movie it doesn't feel like one. Its structure is nothing like any other MCU movie (surely a good thing), and I actually did find the characters interesting, and it looks great.

But...being an MCU movie is part of its problem. Every link with the wider MCU creates more problems than it solves and it feels shoehorned in to MCU continuity in a way that doesn't really work (and not just the handwaving of their lack of involvement in InfinityWar).

It also suffers from essentially being a setup movie, not only for its own sequel but I'm guessing at least two or even three others. Quite a few extraneous scenes that don't drive the movie.

Having said that, the off-camera voice at the end of second end credits scene is very cool; everyone's favourite daywalker...

I actually think it might be the one MCU film that might go up in people's estimation when the other pieces fall into place.

NB. Are people seriously giving out about the movie having a couple of gay characters? Fuckwits.
