I think this is the election that proves first past the post is broken.

As of now (6.30)

Lib Dem 1.7m votes 6 seats
UKIP 2.8m votes 1 seat
SNP 1.4m votes 55 seats
DUP 184k votes 8 seats

Er...ok.

Just watching the a few of the declarations this morning and it seems the Lib Dem candidates are just happy to keep their deposit now.

My oh my, what a day to wake up to.

Labour have been hounded out, absolutely pumped by the SNP across the country even in safe Labour seats. I'm actually not bothered about Dave, just as long as the mubbling fuck wasn't in charge, even if did mean no SNP influence in a coalition.

I genuinely don't see why we need Labour anymore, the SNP filled the void that they left after making a cunt of Scotland and in England ... well ... because Millipede.

Two options in the referendum. Five or more options in the election.

Although it's hard for people to get this into their heads, a vote for the SNP doesn't mean a vote for independence. Even still, let's assume it is - from what I heard on the radio this morning the SNP got "one million" and something votes, still not enough for independence. As I've already said, the SNP is the ultimate "fuck you labour" vote. It's unfortunate that England don't quite have the same, but reflected in the nigh on Tory majority.

yea true, i was coming at it from the wrong end, assuming if you were pro independence you would vote SNP, so yea

fair play to them though, any upset is good upset

We've known that for years but retard joe public refused to do anything about it when the lib dems pulled the vote out.

But then they lacked balls - they should have insisted on proportional repesentation instead of the alternative vote.

So much for the assertion that murdoch isn't as powerful as he once was eh? - vote tory in england and vote SNP up north - he's neutered labour totally.

Interesting how the pollsters got it so wrong :)

The whole SNP thing is quite interesting. Although the referendum was a complete disaster for independence, it has raised the opinion that Scotland was not represented in a unified form, as reflected today.

Hopefully tho the SNP wont go mental and assume they have the backing of the people to go for Independence again.......
I'd actually expect the result to be further against Indep. now with such a unified Westminster presence.....

My cat could have won an SNP seat with the amount of support they have in Scotland.

Which may not actually be a good thing for the SNP if any old fool can get a seat if they represent the SNP.

Actually, it's a terrible result for scotland. The SNP can be completely ignored by the conservatives - you're now a voiceless country because the SNP needed a some sort of deal with Labour to get any of their objectives.

The only reason we need Labour is as a balance to the tories - and now Labour are neutered. And if you look at the point that Raven raised - first past the post + SNP landslide now means that effectively the conservatives have no real opposition at all.

Tory's wildest dreams have come true. They can trash skirtland (because the scots will ultimately blame the SNP), privatise the NHS and their only opposition is now utterly useless despite only polling a few percentage less of the vote than them...

I'm just waiting for the impending privatization of NHS PropCo...and then the sudden sell off of loads of NHS sites to property developers, followed by the sudden realization that their nearest hospital is now 3 times as far away....

All very doom and gloom in here this morning isn't it.... From what I can see 'England' voted no to coalition. With respect to privatisation I feel DC has plenty to concern himself with before he gets to that.... Devolution commitments and a referendum on Europe

Doom and gloom because a party representing only 36% of the voting public has pretty much carte blanche.

And it's not a England election ffs - it's the whole of the UK. Or do you not give two shits about the Union/Scotland?
