True to a point, but the fact remains - when the power is there the handling of the car seems almost effortess, and that's the key. We already know that Renault (and Ferarri, to a lesser degree) need to improve performance, but that's way easier than having to change the fundamental car design.

Don't forget that Red Bull are a marketing company. They don't exist to win races or anything like that, they exist for publicity. Now it's apparent that their season is entirely screwed, they will do what they need to to keep the name Red Bull in the spotlight, including cheating.

They were told repeatedly to slow the fuel flow even during the race. They chose not to because their car was on the telly, and their overalls would be on the podium. They knew what they were doing.

Actually no - it is widely accepted that the engine manufacturers will be allowed to make changes on the allowed grounds purely because it is not in the interest of the sport to have 1 dominant engine when there are only 3 providers. The other teams' agreement is not actually needed.

I think they're still allowed to do reliability fixes to the engines - there's a five day sign-off for the change from other manufacturers. Knowing Renault hiding a few energy recovery fixes in there won't be too difficult.

Was skiing so had to watch on a shitty 16" CRT TV over terrestrial with german commentary.

I worry that because of the fuel restrictions we're going to see a lot more processional races this year.
The engines peak performance is around the 10-11k rev range for max torque/hp, with a massive falloff in efficiency going above that.

That said about the sound - I think its fine, they sound a lot like the 80s turbos and you can hear the crowd going nuts when stuff happens which was great.

I can't feel sympathy because he drives for Red Bull. I know its irrational but I've never liked the team, even before Vettel.

Not disagreeing with you, I can't stand Red Bull as a team (or Vettel) but I liked Webber and I like Ricciardo.

It sucks that the team isn't penalised for their mistake but the driver is. It was not ricciardos fault.

Although on the flip side, Ron Dennis complaining about Vettel calling the engines "shit" is typical uncle-Ron control-freakery; he wasn't complaining about Vettel being wrong, just the fact he would break ranks and say it in the first place in an "unprofessional" way. I hate that kind of corporate horseshit, which has always been the thing that puts me off McLaren; no room for humanity. Even though I don't like Vettel much, I'd prefer to hear his genuine opinions than some PR-massaged bland non-communication.

Was a damn good race though, wheel to wheel for the championship - I just hope Rosberg can keep it close for the rest of the season.

Vettel's a stroppy wanker. He is showing how average he is when he's not in the best car on the grid. Other drivers (Hamilton, Alonso, Button et al) have all performed at higher levels in "not great" cars over the past few seasons.
