Made a decision, it's gotta be record dex aint it.. sure i might be without the latest tunes till i get some cash but that doesn't stop me practising with wot i can get a hold of, i can borrow a load of a m8 (he's spent about 250 in 3 weeks on vinyl and he's only just started himself! wot a nutta)
So will probs get some 2nd hand DD decks by soundlab or numark... any recommendations?
I really do prefer the feel of vinyl and I'd be far more impressed by wot i am doing if i was using vinyl over cd's... gonna be bad cuz i will be wantin to buy 3 styles of music which i like and wanna DJ with and thats an arse when I'm skint! lol
I wanna mix:
Rood boy dark, deep, rumbling UK garage ala dubs, not really soulful vocal stuff, jus hard edged stuff
Drum and bass (been listenin to fabio/grooverider on radio 1 a lot again, aint really followed it much since 95 or so but really like it again) - probably anythin with a rediculous bass line, nice vocal stuff over the top, jazzyish, not too boring sounding tunes etc.. used to like the innovative stuff from yer peeps like LTJ Bukem and Blame but sorta prefer wot fabio plays nowadays, dunno wot u class it as as a sub-genre of DnB, lost touch really
Trance of course: euphoric upliftin non-cheesy stuff, progressive stuff, tech-trance stuff for a harder edged mo' bangin feel...
And more than anythin i jus wanna have fun with wot i'm doin and enjoying my music even more than I already do

I used to, but I moved away from London, and Reading too. However, just got a sweet deal at Base Records whom run the funky house night at Opium on sats. Got a slot starting sat nights, and free wax....nice

CD jocks still need to have the 2 basic skills that all DJ's need 1: A record collection and 2: an ability to read the crowd. Roger Sanchez is a big user of CD decks, I wouldn't call him a muppet, nor would I call Carl Cox a muppet or Paul Oakenfold. CD mixing still needs skills, true its easier to learn mixing on CD's and the new Pioneer twin CD decks have an auto mix facility which pisses me off immensely, much like the DJ who turned up to a competition I played at with a laptop and an MP3 mixer on it.
All he did was switch the fucker on and that was it.
However, it doesn't mater what format you use when it comes to pleasing the crowd, and I know plenty of DJ's that play for themselves and not the punters.
Its all in the programming of a set, no matter how badly mixed, if at all.
Personally I prefer vinyl, but you can still get the feeling from CD mixing, its just nowhere near as good when you're mixing with vinyl. The other good thing about CD's is that they dont make your arms 6 inches longer when trying to carry them into a club
TUG: Numark are a good brand as are Gemini and Stanton. Have a look around and see whats what. Belt drive decks are pants but they're good for learning on although when you do finally upgrade to a set of Technics (and you will....) you have to learn all over again (well, sort of). Get direct drive if you can, but dont be put off getting some newer belt drive decks if possible.
I learnt on belt drivers although scratching was a pain unless you sellotape half a house brick to the tone arm.
GET DJ MAGAZINE. All you need is in there and then you can go and look for second hand deals elsewhere.
Nice choice of tunage you want to play, eclectic to say the least.
I'm sort of stuck playing what the locals like (cheese mostly) but its not all bad coz I can swing them round to my way of thinking most nights.

I'll deffo get direct drive decks I have heard how hard it is to mix with belt drives as they have a big problem holding the pitch! Me m8s soundlab DD (direct drive) dex aint perfect but they're ok... something like thos wud do till I could afford technics decks
I have a copy or 10 of DJ Magazine from...........1995 and 1996 lol.. I'll go buy a new one this weekend

Have a look at the Stanton stuuf if you can, coz they're pretty cheap and get good reviews.

mewizard please don't put the words "i love you" in your letter, your chances will quite literally fall into the abyss.
Look at her occasionally though, that works, but when she looks at you, smile and look back to your friends and talk.
Don't stare at her 24/7 though, that'd be really freaky, even for tough brits like myself.
Be yourself, be funny though, dont be too sarcastic, dont trail 2 feet behind her wherever she walks. The idea is you're supposed to be infront of her so she'll notice you.
Other than that, lovely thread, very amusing to hear some of your life problems. Some of you older forum go-ers should know better
(p.s That cinema group thing would be ideal to exchange mobile numbers where you can use your wonderful mastery of the english language to flirt via text messages...heh, works for meh )

my m8 sed she doesnt like talking to strangers, and that cud be a reason why she was bitchey with me, so i really need to talk to her b4 n e thing else, ill ask my m8 2morrow if he think he cud setup the cinema thing
i have been looking at her too much l8ly, again, wen she walked around the corner, i noticed her take a extremely quick glance, if this was to see if i was lookin i dunno, she looked in my direction
overall she hasnt gave me any hints that she likes me, but im starting to notice she looks in my direction, this may be me thinking its somthing big (coz i want it to be) but she cud be looking at n e one, n e where, or just taking the ocasional look at her surroundings
im getting tempted to ask her, or try to talk to her, i was gonna ask her if i cud walk with her 2day, but like i sed, the nerves,
