I just wanted to see how you set it up, because you've gotten me all interested in sorting something like that out for myself. Hard to tell in that picture though, no problems. Maybe another time when it's sunny :)

OH AND 65 BLOODY INCHES! That's like half a cinema :)

Sweet looking display...

How does that cope with a good MP FPS in full swing?...

Teeds, picture quality is brilliant and very sharp. Obviously though, if you sit right up at the screen you can see the tiny individual mirrors (pixels effectively) that make up the picture. However, the same would happen if you sit too close to a TV screen or plasma TV. I will take a close up of a projected image tonight to let you see (if the camera picks it up).

http://www.dlp.com for the technology involved.

Mutiplayer is spot on, I'll take a grab of Farcry once my 9800 Pro comes back from overclockers (it died :().

For TDC:

(warning, big picture)

I had to take it at a slight angle because I would have been blocking the light. This is taken from about 12" away and it allows you to see the pixels that make up Sully's nostril and eye (compare it to the original pics to see how much it's blown up). You'd never sit that close, so you are never aware of this.

thanks Mr BigG, you (or rather your projector) make me quiver with envy. I have a wall perfect for such a thing tbh, and there will be another in my new house. that thingy's a wee bit expensive atm though :(

I can vouch for big g's DLP greatness claim, we have four in our unionjs venues, and they fucking rock, can be seen very clearly over our many lights, they do have quite a bit of light spillage tho.

Yeah some projectors suffer light leakage, thankfully the Optoma doesn't suffer.

not from the projector itself, from the beam. its prolly not noticable in a home or conference enviroment, but it is in a club

yer, it means you see the beam, it disperses more and because there so bright the light reflected off the screens makes the place quite light

What you're describing isn't light leakage, just sounds like a caveat of projection in environments with a smokey/dusty environment.

The 'halo' effect (or 'light leakage'). It may bother some people using their projector for home cinema. Basically it's a grey band around the outside of the image, caused by stray light being bounced off the edges of the tiny mirrors on the DLP chip. It can be a distraction, but can be overcome by having a black border a few inches wide around the screen, so the halo falls on to the border. However the halo effect is less evident in the newer DLP chips such as the DDR chip.

Yeah, you can pick them up in the UK for £1150 now.

Be wary of buying one from the US, current exchange rates would equate to £750 ish as you say, but by the time you add on VAT at 17.5% (£880), import duty (typically can be 15% for electrical goods - £1013) and shipping costs it could end up being roughly the same price but perhaps slightly cheaper not to mention the issue with a US model being 110v.

Earlier models also have a few issues and require a firmware update (mine did) and it had to be returned - if you pickup an earlier model and it needs replace/repaired/updated, it's gonna be a real sting to ship it back to Optoma USA.
