You ever tried playing guitar? (waits for the "yeah i been playing for 20 years etc etc) well, i know a lot of really good guitarists that have trouble playing some of the solo's (not riffs) from Guns n roses due to the complicity of them. When u listen to the solo's from todays artists they are totally shite. Buy a guitar, get the tablature from your local library for say, umm well anything from todays artists and I gurantee within a month you will be able to play any solo by these artists. The reason, you say that "arent even thought of" its because good guitarists. Plant, Page, Hendrix, slash etc wont just stick to one basic chord for the solo, its a mix of 7 or 8 differnt chords which makes it harder to play. The solo on Voodo child by jimi hendrix is the greatest guitar solo of all time. He somehow makes it sound like there are 2 guitars at once, playing at the same time. Any decent guitarist can make a solo from one chord as all the notes go together. Making up a solo from more than one chord is always going to be harder as you have to make the notes from each differnt chord "fit togther"

So if guns n roses solo's are so bad, why was the solo for sweet child of mine voted the 2nd greatest solo of all time (Obvioulsy Voodo child was no1) and 4 other Guns n roses solos in the top 10?

Ive been playing about 6 years, and fair eough Im by no meens great at guitar but I can play.

Guns and Roses solos aren't easy by any meens, and thoseof you commenting that there all "high screeching notes" are just adding a bias musical opinion.

Yes, a lot of G&R stuff is based around the pentatonic scale, but look at Hendrixs solo in Hey Joe. Play any note in the E pent. scale and it sounds good, add some fancy stuff and it sounds better, slide off notes etc. But at the end of the day the solo's are easier then G&R, they just sound 'better' due to your musical tastes.

Id agree, I much prefer hendrix stuff, but slash was and still is a damn good guitarist.

p.s. if you want to hear some modern day rock/metal guitar greats listen to zakk wylde and the black label society. I saw him live at ozzfest and he as amazing.

To a certain degree your correct, but many of todays artists dont put their emphasis on long guitar solo's. ALL of the greatest guitar solo's are very difficult to master as im sure Karlo would agree. Karlo. What guitar do u play? Ive got a les paul black top (gibson) but havent touched it for about 5 years.
