Point is, they will generally only play a small pool of teams due to the limitations imposed due to having 3 teams from England going into the next stage. Plus pretty much all the other teams are from the usual same countries. Its just worked out that this year Arsenal actually managed to win their group and Bayern didn't so its flipped round.

Personally I think it would make it much more interesting if anyone could play anyone because as it is, it just means that mathematically its pretty much the same tournament every year.
