Red card killed the game. Vardy is a great into space man and I think if Portugal had been on the attack that side would have been devastating on the counter. They were not very good breaking down 9 behind the ball though.

I agree portugal closed shop at ten men gave vardy no where to run. Pushed him and kane back.

IMO the reason we were so poor was because of the 3 midfielders & front 3.

As soon as 1 was removed, instantly we played better.

He needs to play 4312 and just stop trying to play Rooney as a playmaker, Alli is infinitely better in that position and it showed when Rooney was pushed back up top.

IMO it should be from the midfield:

Wilshire - Dier - Henderson/Barkley/Milner

Alli

Kane Vardy

I don't really see what's so hard, the only problem I have is who to pick for that final third midfield spot. I'd pick Noble or Drinkwater but you know, Roy can't pick a midfield to save his life.

Rooney may be top scorer but he's actually a problem in that side unless he is played as a striker. Also get Kane off the set pieces.

Why Kane was on set pieces is beyond me. Why Woy is so determined to get Rooney on even if it damages the team is also beyond me. Playing 2 of the top scorers in the league out wide is batshit crazy. Hodgson really made a meal of it last night, if that's how he sets the team up at the Euros we're fucked from the off.

The whole point of having Vardy and Kane up top is to stretch the defence, instead they landed up out wide. Rooneys just not quick enough on that position, Alli is far better and has a relationship with Kane.

So reports are that we have triggered a release clause for Vardy at £20m. Now for a 30 goal striker even for 2 or 3 years that is good business. But given the amount of teams that sit back against us is he likely to get 30 a season for us or end up running into a wall of defenders camped on the edge of the 18 yard box.

I am really hoping he decides to stay where he is. I really think he will end up playing up top 2 or 3 times against some team with 10 behind the ball he will fail to score and will end up playing left wing while Giroud goes up top again

A 30 goal a year striker and we would be a lot closer to winning the league. But it has to be one who can get 30 goals playing for Arsenal.

If anyone can supply Vardy with goals it's Ozil, Vardy has unfairly been thrown in the he only scores from being played in by a long ball, but he scored a decent amount of goals from inside the box getting across ahead of defenders. The opener against Everton, his goal against Chelsea both balls into the box from not too far outside it, he also showed fantastic technique while scoring some of those goals. Personally I think it's decent value, you can see in the lads attitude he's gonna work his Arse off to make himself a success.
