always on the cards, 1-0 was never enough with our shit defense and we could not take our chances. Sterling and Kane should not play next match. Whenever a cross actually came in Kane was sat on the 18 yard line. Substitutions were bemusing at best.

That said, was a very entertaining game, if England can improve their finishing they have a real shot at making it far.

Sterling was poor, his decision making is shocking at times. There was a moment in the first half where he had the ball and acres of space and he got over the halfway line and just kinda stopped, waiting for the "second wave" as the commentator called it. Why not trying getting a bit closer to that netty thing while you have precisely zero opponents near you? Lallana was pretty anonymous second half, Kane had an off day offensively (but he's so valuable all over the pitch it's hard to see him being dropped). Other than that though it's difficult to find fault with the performance, just a shit goal to concede right at the death.

I don't think England played as well as a lot of people are making out. They played OK, Russia played terribly early on and then as soon as England let down their guard the Russians took advtantage.

I think there's a difference between playing well and performing well; you can dominate the field but if the ball does not enter the net its largely a waste of time.

No fucking idea what Sterling was doing all game, flapping his arms about and running in straight lines mostly. Why is Kane taking corners?! I thought our defence actually did OK and Rooney was pretty good in a midfield position too. Shit goal to concede but a 1 nil lead is never safe and we should have done a lot better. Should have brought Vardy on at half time to run around their ageing defence.

At least the England Rugby went well this week - U20's beat Skirtland, U20's Ireland beat NZ which was superb, Saxon's beat Sud Afrika and England beat the Aussies.

All my frustrations with Woy from his disastrous LFC jaunt came back last night.

I don't think the team was set up to it's strengths. We're poor defensively yet have an embarrassment of attacking riches but some of our most potent attacking forces were on the bench.

Wrong setup and poor subs enacted too late. A decent team would steamroller us.

Honestly, keeping the ball is just a waste of time if you don't do anything with it. Any chance we had to counter attack the players just slowed up and passed it backwards.

Why are the full backs crossing a ball when Kane is not even in the middle of the box or attempting to get on the end of it.

All of the subs were awful decisions, Kane, Lallana and Alli were blowing and remained. Rooney was absolutely fine and probably had the best game i've seen him play in the midfield yet got subbed. I don't want to knock Alli and Lallana in the first half as they were actually playing really well, but we needed some conviction in the box from all the fullbacks and midfields hard work, but instead our striker is taking set pieces

I really hope he moves away from possession football, or every team will just do what Russia did and sit 10 behind the ball for 90 minutes and frustrate us into conceeding.
