Was that 7 minutes of extra time at tottingham justified?

The Football Association confirms there will be no further action taken against Burnley striker Ashley Barnes for the challenge which led to Nemanja Matic's red card for Chelsea on Saturday.

In a series of tweets, the FA outline the protocol in place for not re-refereeing incidents which the match official has seen.

"In the vast majority of challenges for the ball, no retrospective action is taken as the incident has been seen by the match officials," tweet the FA.

"Retrospective action introduced as deterrent for 'off the ball incidents' [e.g. kicks, stamps etc.] committed out of sight of officials.

"Whole game in agreement that, in vast majority of cases, match officials are best-placed to deal with incidents to avoid re-refereeing."

So he saw it then, just kind of makes it even worse then I guess.

I wonder on what grounds Chelsea have appealed Matic's red, other than perhaps confidence they wouldn't get an extra game for a frivolous appeal.

It's pretty shameful that Qatar could bid for the World Cup on the basis of it being a summer tournament (the same as the other bidders) only to then turn round and say, oh actually its quite hot here isnt it, lets fuck up football for everyone and move the tournament to the winter.

FIFA sucks

Fortunately for them though, nobody mentioned any of this at the time so they can save a bit of face and say they didn't realise...

I still see a hell of a fight coming on this whole issue besides what FIFA and UEFA say.

Agree; its going to cost all the clubs in Europe an absolute fucking fortune. There will be knock on effects with the rights holders (Sky will demand a rebate from the leagues, even though they will still ultimately show the same number of games, they will be out of sync with the TV schedules, and especially in places like the US, it will mean foreign football will get dropped or moved for domestic sports). I'm actually amazed UEFA aren't kicking up more of a stink already, given how its going to affect the CL.

In theory a world cup from late Nov to Dec would require so much reworking and could well effect the season before and after just to even accommodate such a move, a world cup in its normal place may make the season longer but there is a recovery period afterwards which can help in the usual injuries picked up at the world cup .

The rumoured dates are 26th Nov to 23rd Dec and as an example Chelsea played 7 games in that period this year, this ignores the fact that the players would need sometime before and probably afterwards which for this country may well screw up the busiest and most watched period of the year just after Christmas and even those that do return aren't all likely to perform that well coming from what is likely to be a tough world cup back to domestic leagues.

Great big brown envelopes stuffed full of 50s

I'm not sure this will be so effective considering the volumes of money already around in the leagues that'll be most effected.

FIFA is suppose to represent all that is good about football yet for a long time all it has done is represent all that is wrong with the great game, UEFA is suppose to represent the clubs of Europe yet I question what appears to be its full support in backing Qatar and then giving its backing to this unprecedented move to Winter.

Seems the Assessor believes Atkinson got all 4 decisions right in the Chelsea v Burnley game.

Matic's ban has been reduced to 2 games.
I don't get that. It was either violent conduct (which is 3 games) or it wasn't (red card rescinded). It seems odd to reduce it a bit. Oh well, at least he can't play on Sunday. :)

Excessive punishment is what they appealed it on I think - means he will return for our game against Southampton in the league.
