He's a brilliant manager there's no two ways about it and that's my point. Even he hasn't fixed United and his starting record was even worse than that of Moyes. It's funny that when he talks about a "long term project" everybody laps it up but Moyes was expected to deliver results immediately.

The problem with Moyes was his failure in the transfer market rather than what happened on the pitch. In part he was the fall guy for Woodward, but his track record was also a problem when it came to attracting big players, a problem that only got worse without CL football this year. United needed a "name" manager to offset the lack of European football.

All true (there's no way in the world that he could've attracted the likes of Di Maria and Falcao) but as far as I can tell it was only SAF that actually wanted him at OT in the first place. As a manager at a "smaller" club on a tighter budget and with slightly more grounded aspirations he's already proved himself more than capable so I think Sociedad is a good fit for him. The whole "it's in another country" thing could make it a bit more interesting, mind.

Sociedad are used to British managers, so it will be down to how moyes adapts. I wish him the best, and hope he can rebuild his reputation. Not a bad manager suddenly because of his time at United.

Good article about life after football

http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/29972022
I had Dan Lübbers, former footballer, in the 8th and 9th grade gym class. He played for Herfølge when they were first promoted, then won the Danish league the year after and finally relegated the third year. He was such an awesome person and really managed to put some discipline into the class and get a hold of us guys. It also meant that we played footy for two years straight :)

Carlton Palmer was teaching at a Dubai School called Repton but then ran into trouble with the Police for drink driving. Understand he is now in Shanghai teaching PE at an expat school.

Must be on pretty decent wage teaching in Dubai/Shanghai to be fair

The number of former players who declare bankruptcy is incredible, David James being the latest.

They don't get nearly enough support from their clubs. You can't chuck 100 grand a week at a 20something and expect them to learn how to be responsible with their money. They live a ridiculous lifestyle then the money stops early 30s and they can't cope.

He has served his time and nobody can legally stop him from earning a living, that said I hope he ends up living in his own shit in a bedsit somewhere.

Heart bleeds...

...the club should point them at an accountant, but they're personally responsible. If someone had chucked 20 grand a week at me in my 20's I'd have done what Robbie Fowler did.

mmm. but I wasn't sympathising now was I?

Er, that's how your post reads to me "these poor souls need help". Maybe should make sure their arsehole agents do a bit more for their 15% than just engineer transfers.

Nope, just a factual statement. I don't much care one way or the other.

But its not a factual statement, you're basically saying the club has a duty of care to players because they give them so much money, I'd disagree, for exactly the same reason.

Nope, because then I would have added something like "the club has a duty of care to players" When I actually said "You can't chuck 100 grand a week at a 20something and expect them to learn how to be responsible with their money"

Because, you know, that's a factual statement. (I didn't even mention clubs...)

Sounds more like your issue with reading comprehension to me. Talk about putting words in someone's mouth. Jeez.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY? You're selectively quoting yourself now? What are you, a seal? Let's review shall we?

"They don't get nearly enough support from their clubs". Care to elaborate? In other news, black is now officially white.

Well...they don't. Whether or not they should is a different matter...one that I have offered no opinion on because I simply don't care.

You know, you can just admit you misinterpreted what I said, you wont lose the internet. Its fine, it was early, you probably desperately needed something to look up on Wikipedia to try and make out someone is wrong. We've all been there.

Context dear fellow, learn to see it.

Heh, well that was fun. Moving on.... i agree that the agents should actually be responsible, and the pfa. The club's don't have a duty of care outside of ensuring they get the best value out of the player.
