I don't get why people get so gooey about English teams doing badly, the prem will lose out in the end because it will screw with our coefficient.

Because perhaps most people only care about one team.

Football isn't about pally nationalism - if Utd go out I laugh my arse off. I kinda like to see Arsenal do well. Chelski and Shitty have bought their success.

But the idea that we all have to support "the premier league" is just a footballing version of the idea that we must all "fight for our country".

Fuck that.

Totally agree, it's like were expected to show some kind of weird brand loyalty

Yarp, but if the coefficient gets screwed there is less chance of the Arsenals/Liverpools/UTDS of this world getting into the Champions league, which in turn attracts less decent players to the prem.

It has nothing to do with brand loyalty and has everything to do with seeing a competitive league. Rather than a dull as dishwater league.

We already have a dull as dishwater league ruled by money. There's two teams, maybe three tops, who can win the league this year. The other 17 have no chance. Now they're banging on about another PL game outside of England again.

Football used to be about supporting one club. Doing well in your league. Now it's about the possibility of a small number of people making a serious amount of money from a global audience.

For that we're supposed to support "the premier league"?

Fuck that. I support Liverpool.

Er, not even close to what I said.

I said, if English clubs go out early we lose champions league spots. and fwiw, Channel 5 cup spots too.

In doing so making it even less competitive as a league, it is no where near as bad as Spain, Germany, France etc.

Should be in it to win it anyway. It's not a champion's league. It's a money-making league that's subverted and weakened our own League.

Players want to play in the CL. They don't want to entertain their home fans week in week out - and the best players are even more concentrated in a smaller and smaller number of CL clubs.

The best players have always been at a handful of clubs, post war anyway. Those best clubs may change every few years but throughout the history of the top league a few teams have dominated.

Liverpool had their turn, UTD had their turn, Arsenal for a bit, Chelsea, now its City's turn. Still massively superior to other leagues though.

Arsenal? Dominated? I'm sure criteria for using that word would be stringing (at least) two League titles together, something they haven't done since the 30s.

United and Liverpool are the only two that can truly be said to have "dominated".

Yeah, except for the fact that between 2000 and 2010 they were in the top 2, 6 times, winning it twice. Top 3 8 out of 10

I don't think you can read but sadly the days of me wasting my time trying to explain simple things to a pleb like you are long gone.

Wow. You said a few teams have dominated then went on to list Arsenal as one of those teams. There's literally only one way that that can be interpreted and that's what I was questioning.

Chelsea haven't dominated either (yet), for that matter. They were a blip towards the end of United's dominance, if anything.

I support the other English teams in the champion's league because I don't want them to get knocked out and have an easy ride in the league. Also by getting knocked out they lose money, making the league even more imbalanced and weaker, not to mention that if Italy wasn't shit we could end up having only 3 spots in the CL pretty soon.

Only in the group stages though, after that I want them to lose unless it's against one of the more threatening teams.

I always support other English teams when they play in Europe but it doesn't change the fact that Man City threw away a two goal lead, Liverpool couldn't defend and Arsenal got lucky :)

I always support the UK teams too. Maybe it's cause non of them are close to being rivals for my team.

Benefits of not being a plastic and supporting a recently successful club. ;)
