"...he wasn't that good tonight any way" - Against a parked bus and a constant player up your ass it will be hard for anyone. But what he did off the ball, created room for other players, such as Di Maria, who did great! He gave Bale a wide open goal at the edge of the box, which he missed, but Ronaldo created that chance. Had Bale been able to score on the many chances he had, Real would have won it easily

I think the old reply to this is "once he carries his Portugal to a World cup win" you can call him the best ever. He is 100% the best player I have seen play (except Bergkamp) and that includes Messi.

Not really and only fanboys tend to imply the word forever when talking about sportsmen/women without realising the gravity that goes with using it, it generally ignores time, positions, scientific advances, etc.

To me there can never be a greatest of all time in nearly any sport, there are just greats which he sure is although even then he'll probably never win a world cup sadly.

In general my point is related to the past rather than the future and the point still holds as far as I'm concerned, which isn't tainted by any real bias.

I see your point though, but it is not valid in this case

you cant say best ever in relation to the past, your judging him against players like Charles, Pele, Maradona, Puskas, Best, Edwards, Matthews etc. who are greats of their times, but football changes in such ways you can never compare.

I do agree that he is the best in the game at the moment.
