They can still win it though if City slip up.

Still, not a bad showing against the money boys.

They've still spent a fair wedge since the PL began;

Chelsea 950m
City 806m
Liverpool 650m
United 613m
Arsenal 435m

Yeah but to be fair, a lot of that was Dalglish going slightly mad, 35 mil on Andy Carroll. I know there isn't a massive amount in it but over the last few years City have just gone mad and I actually think its a bit of a failure that they aren't wiping the floor with everyone.

(except for the fact that money alone does not buy success!)

And there's no need to be a dick Ch3t. :( I could point you at any number of sources from this year that said LVG was excited about coming to the Prem and Spurs. He had the choice to make between us and manure and he obviously went with you lot. Despite the differences in the sizes of our clubs, I guess he sees United as a more desparate and needy club. It still remains to be seen if and how much SAF will back off and let him get on with it though.

Oh but its soooo much fun winding you up about it, and of course you're right, it was "the desperate and needy" aspect that made him choose United over North London's finest serial underachievers.

Not just transfer fees either, salaries to. Nasry went from 70k to 170k a week, heck of a jump.

There maybe should've been a "this might not be why I actually think he chose you" smiley after I said that. :)

I'm disappointed in his choice but not in the least bit surprised. He is obviously going to choose United over any other team in the prem, should the position become available. It's very Spursy of us to be flirting with him for so long without any result but I guess as soon as he saw how United were under Moyes he held off to see what would happen. I think he could've achieved more from a lower starting position with us but who would turn down United if they came knocking?

Liverpool, United and Arsenal have spent that money over 21 years. Chelski and City have spent it over about 12 and 5 respectively - so more than double and quadruple their figures please...

Yes, because Chelsea spent no money at all until Roman turned up......

Relatively speaking, yep. You'd won fuck all for like 50 years before Abramovich turned up with his bazillions.

That's because chelski are a tiny little club. Fact! :D

They'd probably be somewhere around the level of Leeds without their sugar daddy.

Between 95/96 and Abramobitch taking over Chelsea spent £123,030,000 (£63,170,000 net)
Since then £814,159,000 (£577,559,000 net)

So from an average of £15,378,750 (£7,896,250 net) to an average of £74,014,454 (£52,505,363 net) a season. Nearly spending 5 times as much. If they spend that way since 95/96 the total spending would be £1,406,274,636.

I am glad transferleague.co.uk copies to Excel haha

Your trolling is rubbish. In just five years before Abramovich, FA Cups, League Cup, Cup Winner's Cup, Super Cup?

...and a lorra debt (£80m iirc, a lorra debt in those days) which Abramovich paid off when he bought the club.

They bought up all the players Arnesen had been watching while at Spurs and not one of them has done 1/5th of fuck all.

It's why he bought 'em. There was a fashionable club in london having a bit of a fun cup run for a few short years. Prior to that Chelski had done both fuck and all very loudly since their league win a decade after World War 2...

Tiny club. Fact.

Come 17:00 this Sunday there is every chance you'll still of failed to win the premiership, but whichever way it goes we will either continue to hear about pre premiership titles or should you win the premiership it'll give you slightly newer source material for the next 20 years. Fact :p

The MU fans I've spoken to today seem to favour MC since it means Liverpool will remain two titles behind them, I did joke that it gave the impression that MU fans don't think they'll be fighting for the title soon since they want a 2 title buffer still :p

This is Liverpool's greatest chance in years, if they don't win it could easily be another 25 years. How does everyone think they'll fair next year?

I think with the right buys and if they keep their key players there is no reason for them to not do well again. It isn't just this season they did well, the second half of last season they got more points that everyone else. Couple of decent defenders and a couple of learnt lessons for Rogers and they will be OK.

Champs league will be too many games for them. They'll struggle to compete for top four.

Yep. Unless they get effectively knocked out by losing their first two games and write it off. They need to keep all their best players as well.

What's their coefficient these days? Surely at best they'll be pot 2, probably even lower, CL next year will inevitably be very difficult for them.

That's why I always wonder why teams are so happy to skip on the Europa League while chasing for the Champion's League. You finally manage to get in, then flunk out immediately because of the shit coefficient you've built up.

Also be interesting to see where ManU are at if they ever get back in. If they get back in after a year with no European football at all it's quite likely they'll fall into pot 2, but very close.

Meh, you have to beat the best at some point or another, better to go out early that later on really when you are relatively low on the table...not sure whether winning it (fairly) recently makes any difference.

I'd say that's fair. I've wanted Chelsea, then City then (never ever) Liverpool to win it, for pretty much the reasons you've described. I don't think United fans take City seriously as a long term threat. I think in the back of our minds is the Arabs aren't in it for the long haul.

Perhaps but then most thought the same of Roman Abramovich.

The trouble is with a single owner who has no attachment to the a club that isn't very big, in terms of global support (revenue and advertising) if that single source of backing disappears they come unstuck, especially when saddled with stupid wages and long contracts like City. Without the backing of their owner and the flow of questionable sponsorship deals they would be in serious trouble.

Hopefully Uefa start really turning on the punishment in the next few seasons because at some time or another, all these crazy salaries will turn round and bite football in the arse.

So I did City too as I was interested and they are so much worse.

Between 92/93 and 07/08 they spent £165,730,000 (£91,477,000 net) which is £10,358,125 (£5,717,312 net) a season.

Between 08/09 and 13/14 they spent £640,650,000 (£479,950,000 net) which is £106,775,000 (£79,991,666 net) a season.

So a 10 fold increase in spending and 14 fold increase in net spending. They really do make Chelsea look tame.

It is no surprise, I said it many times we have spent more overall but they've spent nearly the same in half the time.

There are some reports around the PSG have been given a lower fine than Man City.
