"You failed a financial test so we will fine you but call it something else". Wow, there's an incentive to keep rich people in check if ever I heard one.

Yep, points deduction, transfer ban, european ban... there are a number of things that will actually have an impact and incentivise teams to play by the rules.

Man City and PSG have breached the Fifa Fair Play rules, under 20 clubs have failed to meet the criteria apparently.

They've all received 'settlement figures' whats to bet its about £50.....
So to punish teams that spend too much money they are fining them? Does this money end up in Christmas bonuses or something otherwise whats the fucking point.

well they're toothless anyway aren't they. Haven't they recently changed their mind about Barca's transfer ban?

It's still better than having no controls. At the end of the day this is new and can be improved upon.

This "Giggs could be the next Guardiola" talk is quite funny. If United win their final few games and appoint him as manager it will be nearly as stupid as paying Rooney 300k a week. He's got no experience whatsoever and won't be inheriting the best team in the world like Guardiola has twice now.

Chelsea, consider yourselves chastised!

There was me thinking it was pretty much standard practise to set up a defense against a freekick right outside your box.

I'm actually worried that this nonsense is getting traction. A few years under Van Gaal and then Giggs could be the new Guardiola (or given its Van Gaal, the new Mourinho). For once I'm actually pleased the Glazers routinely ignore public opinion and the fans. Van Gaal is 62 and isn't in the habit of staying around for a long time, 3-4 seasons and it could work out rather well for all concerned.

I am worried about delays to transfers if they have to wait for Van Gaal's signoff until after the WC though. Don't want to go through the same shit as last summer, and United have to sign at least three players, probably five.

I think it's called the art of defending - not especially surprised the Scousers don't recognise it - it is, after all, beneath them to do such old fashioned things like defend a free kick. Probably why we've had 6 points off them this season......

Chelsea are preaty pathetic, effective yes, but pathetic none the less.

How so?
By winning stuff and single handedly keeping the Premier League's Coefficient respectable so the league gets 4 places in the CL? In fact if it wasn't for us, Arsenal's glorious 4th place would see them in the Europa League.

Sounds "preaty" pathetic to me!

Great achievements indeed, now if they could only do the same while also playing attractive offensive football. No wait, they tried that once, didn't go so well.

So Yes, from a neutral pov Chelsea is not only booring as hell to watch, and taking into account the level of players they choose to do it with? Yes also utterly pathetic

I am glad of the result. It means the most entertaining league in the world goes right down to the wire. If Liverpool had beaten Chelsea then they would have pretty much won the league. As it stands it will go down to the last game of the season.

That's not to say Chelsea aren't a boring team who just bore people into submission. At least the likes of Barca bore people into submission but occasionally play some nice football, still better than sticking 10 men behind the ball and killing the game.

6-0 against Arsenal, 4-0 against Tottenham, 3-1 against Man Utd, completely outplaying City at the Etihad etc etc etc. There's two sides to every coin. Ferguson is praised as a wonderful attacking manager - which he was most of the time - but he wasn't adverse to doing a job against top attacking sides. Just look at how Utd played against Arsenal over the years, Ferguson would often play full backs in midfield to shackle their wide players and force the game through the middle, making it congested and suffocating Arsenal.

As a Chelsea fan I'd love to see us win every game by playing beautiful football, but equally I understand that you can't play every game like that or you end up like Tottenham or Liverpool.

There's so much hypocrisy in this thread it's bordering on the ridiculous. Football is about results, managers and players do everything they can to win in 99% of situations. Liverpool and Rodgers especially showed their naivety at the weekend but that shouldn't take away from a season where they have massively over achieved considering how thin their squad is. Liverpool have been a joy to watch all season and objectively I'd say they deserve to win the league, all loyalties aside. With that said, if anyone expects top teams to just let Liverpool (or any other team for that matter) run riot in the first 20minutes and go 3-0 up as they have done all season then you're a fool. Mourinho was never going to let that happen and no other top class manager would either.

I'd much rather watch a team lethal on the counter attack, such as us or Real Madrid, than the utter sideways pass the opoonent into boredom favoured by Barca/Bayern.

And of course we will ignore the fact that in the League we've scored more than the darlings of attractive, offensive (and utterly ineffective) football Arsenal.

It is interesting to see the split in Everton fans and the fact that is Arsenal played first one won they would be happy rolling over for City just to stop Liverpool winning the league. But as they play first they are torn haha.

I don't think Everton have any realistic chance now; even if Arsenal lost to West Brom, Norwich is a gimme.

@Bodhi , are you even allowed to support Chelsea with Samsung being their sponsor?

Even though I really can't be doing with their products, or their corporate culture of ripping everything off, I'm more than happy for them to spend their money on Chelsea yes.

Oooft, that Jose chap is a cheeky young scamp.

Looks like everyone except Cech will be available for Wednesday. Must admit I'm a lot more positive about our chances with Eden and the pensioner back in the lineup.

Not just spending money but buying global exposure for those awful ripped-off products so they can sell even more of them!
