I would have thought VDS would be up there with them after his record-breaking season. I suppose his Fulham days dragged the figure down a bit.

I'd have any of cech, neuer, lahm, chiellini, thiago Silva, kompany, hummels, alba, Cole, busquets, pirlo, yaya toure ahead of ahead of people in the same positions, I'm sure I've missed some.

but just watch Sky sports news just now, and Nelson has the best stats of all our defenders (most tackles,clearences etc). So I would have preferred him to stay till the end of the season even if he contract was up

The thing is you waited until he played 90 minutes, scored then released him! Why not release the waster when he wasn't playing? Madness.

Fucking madness. The defenders especially - Alves and Pique had shocking seasons, Marcelo is outclassed by any number of left backs let alone those you mentioned. Casillas was as good as ever, but Cech had a much more noteworthy season in terms of both big performances and honours.

In midfield Pirlo had a renaissance season and completely carried Juve at times as well as carrying Italy through the Euros, Toure was just unbelievable and City wouldn't have won the title without him. Xavi was average at best last season by his own standards, and what did Barca achieve exactly? Iniesta continues to be world class but I didn't feel he had an outstanding season. Alonso, won La Liga and the Euros but was he seriously that crucial a part of either team? I suppose he is very central and perhaps the most deserving of all the midfielders, but still.

The only thing I really agree with is the forwards, they are definitely the three best in the world but RvP had an equal if not better year than Falcao so I think that could/should have gone either way.

What part of that stated that I hate him? I still think he has the potential to be a great player, but his problem has always been his ego. Summed up well on the Guardian football podcast the other day when one of the pundits said something along the lines of 'if he was even 25% as good as he think he is, he'd be a great asset to any team'.
