Anyone see Fergie putting pressure on the referees before a big game? What a surprise. Quite funny how he says City got 21 penalties, exactly the same number as Man Utd.

From the beeb:

Sir Alex Ferguson has questioned the number of penalties rivals Manchester City are given at home.
Since the start of the 2010-11 season City have been awarded 20 Premier League spot-kicks at home to Manchester United's 13.

He's only questioned penalties at home, so yes he is putting pressure on the refs, but no his maths aren't wrong :D

What does it prove though? Its pretty randomly determined when you get a potential penalty call so maybe City just had more potential penalties - its a pretty meaningless stat.

Whereas the 'Fergie Time' extra time at the end of games isnt a particularly random stat and the level of difference in time he gets extra is statistically significant.

Edit - I also think every time he comments directly or in this case indirectly about refereeing he should get a touchline ban.

So you'll apply the same to other teams managers then? Also I'd like to see the stats on extra time, I'm fairly sure it will prove to be another anti utd myth. The bigger teams tend to get more stoppage time as their are generally more disruptions in the games against weaker teams.

Yes - to allow any discussion of refereeing by managers risks them trying to influence things in their favour.

Why do you think fergie made a big thing of it?

Good for the match, but it should really be 3-0

Squeaky bum time at the end but glad we won. Thought we deserved it.

I hate that kind of thing. I had heard that Santi told the ref there was no contact but the ref gave it for intent? But looking at that Santi has gone down after the foot passed him so not avoiding contact just a big old dive :(

Sounds like he dived then did a bit of back peddling when he realised he would only score a 2 or 3 on the score cards. Fair play for trying to correct his cock up but he shouldn't have dived in the first place.

That is a pretty bad dive tbh.

Nice to see United 6 points clear despite having a rotten back 4, we would storm this league if we weren't so fucking useless in the centre.

Very true :(

At the same time the league is quite a lot more interesting when most of the regular top teams have gone towards the middle of the league in terms of ability. (I would personally prefer if Liverpool dominated but that's not gonna happen!)
This has got to be one of the more interesting seasons for a observer without any team preference. (I seem to say that every year recently)
