Kightly - Bought £3,000 / Sold £2mil
Jarvis - Bought £750,000+10% profit / Sold £10mil
Fletcher - Bought £7mil+10% profit / Sold £14mil

Can't knock the profit we have made on those three, insane really. Only one I wish well is Jarvis, a true professional and a top bloke. The other two can royally fuck off.

Corn. We are in for Oviedo and Balanos apparently, confirmed ;).

Fulham have made a formal complaint regarding Liverpool's behaviour in trying to sign Dempsey. Sounds like they may have been tapping him up, which could leave them in trouble.

Ah. It's on sky. According to them Fulham's whinging about Rodgers responding to a reporter by saying that LFC enquired about him.

Can't see that going anywhere tbfh.

Seems weird if it is actually this.

Complaint is about Rodgers. At the time he said. "[Clint] is a talented player but we don't like to talk about other clubs' players."

Thinking about it, a transfer embargo would probably be a good thing for Liverpool ;)

We're under a self-enforced embargo anyway. We're skint.

Way more players have gone out than have come in recently...

HAHAHA ........

Quantity maybe, but whats the point in selling 5 players for a combinded £15 million the then spend all of it on 1 player that's probably worse than all 5 that left..... that seems to be what we do atm.

I'd have Benayoun, Kuyt and Aquilani (and 3.5million cash) over Adam and Macherano over Henderson (same money) or Downing, and I'd have Alonso (+5mill cash) over Carrol

face it, we are the laughting stock of the transfer market atm.

'How much you want for PlayerX?'
'dunno, 5 mill I guess, who's asking?'
'Liverpool'
'LOLZ tell them 18 mill :D'

Under the current context we are not. We can not sign anyone we want. We can not keep everyone we want. We do not have the mega money owners or Man U's financial clout. I would say we are currently the best of the rest nothing more.

We do not have a divine right to challenge for the title we have not been competitive since the Chel$ki revolution. If if we decide to stay being self funded I don't think we will be until the arse falls out of football or the mega money owners leave. If the club decided to let the fat Russian take control i bet we would get competitive real quick but we would also be as fucked as Chelsea and City if the cunt got bored and left.

The whole "big club" label is nothing but nonsense anyway. Are Man Utd not a big club because they couldn't hold on to Ronaldo, and can't sign Messi?

Such a stupid, outdated label that needs to be removed from football altogether.

Why lol? It's a label for which no-one has ever been able to agree upon the requirements... so what's the point in it?

You wouldn't say that if Arsenal were still a big club :p

We never really have been a big club though? We won stuff in the late 90s but were never considered one of Europe's big or top clubs...

Old Guillem is saying Madrid have agreed terms for Sahin with both Liverpool and Arsenal, up to the player now.

Mourinho desperately wants him not to come to us, it could go either way. I reckon the draw of Champions League football will have to win out. That and Cazorla. Who would you rather play with, Santi or Jordan Henderson? :D

We're keeping up with last season's tradition of hitting the post I see. Borini just bounced one off :(

Although Roman hasn't left at all, come next year he will of owned Chelsea for 10 years which ironically makes him actually one of the longest owners of the current Premier league teams.

He reportedly said something along the lines of "this is only the beginning" after the CL so it sounds like he'll be around for a while.

Barcelona vs Madrid kicks off in five minutes, first of money this season I expect.

We never really have been a big club though? We won stuff in the late 90s but were never considered one of Europe's big or top clubs...

Our planned expansion and projected revenue at the time were in order to compete with the clubs on a higher matchday revenue. I don't have the figures to hand anymore but our current corporate seating brings in as much as the whole of Highbury did. What wasn't really expected was the cash-injections into the markets by megabucks owners popping up everywhere which couldn't have been foreseen.

Remembering the Liverpool / Man Utd of the 90s/early 00s, I think had it not been for the sudden transformation of Chelsea, Man City (recent but I'd still count it) and the evolution of Man Utd (slightly more complex but I'd have thought that pound-for-pound despite the debt shifting, they have a lot more resources available to them than they had pre-Glazer). Liverpool have always had a huge worldwide following but even their current situation wouldn't have been achievable (I think) without the injection of cash from the last few owners. Transfer-wise, their situation kinda reminds me of the Houllier days when Arsene and him would go shopping together in France but Arsene returned with Thierry Henry while Gerard came back with Djimi Traore. These are based on memories from when I was younger but I always felt like those 2 went shopping at the same time to the same store yet came back with completely different merchandise :D

As for big / top European clubs I don't think we're quite up there with the Madrid, Barcelona, Milans etc. but I do think our global brand has come a long way.

I mean look at this guy, we wouldn't have had him in the mid 90s!

That's all good and well but Arsenal aren't even reinvesting money made from players. I totally understand that they are using gate receipts, sponsorship money and TV/competition money to pay for the stadium and the running of the club but no club can hope to win anything or attract fans by buying talented youngsters and then developing them for other clubs. Not only is it a total waste of money in wages and training and development but it means fans become disheartened...especially the crucial foreign fan base.

Waste of money? Then laugh at Liverpool:

"we offered £2m plus most of his wages. £6m. Liverpool offered £5m + all wages + relocation costs. £12m"

Source, again, please Waz...

Also - even if that's true then it's a bit cheap of Arsenal. You've recouped much of your stadium costs through naming rights, sponsorship and increased gate receipts. When is your lot going to stop selling their best players and start actually spending some of their rather large reserves of wonga?

Liverpool have won more than you have recently. "Waste of money" or not - that's still a fact. Perhaps its time for Arsenal to take a punt, eh?

I'm not listing a source every time I post in this fucking thread I'll be here all day. Believe it or not, I don't care. Just the figures that are being discussed by everyone.

£12m to develop a player for Madrid for him to fuckoff? That's not taking a punt, that's idiocy.

Exactly. They are fucking desperate though, the way they have started the season if they don't get a creative player in they are looking at a bottom half finish.
