So, Stuart Pearce named caretaker manager for the game against the Netherlands. To be expected I guess, but is there a more frustratingly incompetent - and predictable, stereotypically English - candidate available? I think if Pearce were named full-time manager I'd lose all hope forever. Tactically inept doesn't even begin to describe that caveman.

I would say 'stereotypically English' in this context means simple kick the ball and run hard attitude to football and not one that gives a monkeys about tactics and passing etc. Also the mania with 'must be an english manager is, for me, a tad silly.

I think Pearce should be manager until after the Euros.. he may not be the best manager in the world etc but at least he knows this bunch of players and has experience with them.. same with the u21's...

Pearce is hopeless though, despite the claims he knows players he is woeful at tactics and believes in a dinosaur age of football.

And for the record I think Pearce would be a terrible manager. While I am sure he is good at getting the players "up for it" I don't think he has the technical know how for the job. He makes a decent enough number 2 though.

Also, not fussed about the nationality of the manager, I don't think it makes all that much difference these days.

The manager is not the England teams problem, the whole set up is, from top to bottom. The FA are the ones that should be sorting it out, instead they just lurch from one disaster to the next. We need to look at what the Spanish and the Germans have been doing over the last decade.

I'm not ashamed to be English, I just find many things that are associated with being 'English' shameful.

England need a manager for 10 or 20 years who has full control over how grass root football is handled in this country. He can then do the same job Wenger and Fergie have done and mold a team. Get players playing the right way from age 8. What England will get is a puppet that will do as he is told to collect a check. England will be shit and get booted out of the next competition and the press will call for a ban on foreign players and for the manager to be sacked again.
