Michael Ballack's retired. Where do people put him in terms of greatness? In terms of sheer all-round ability and leadership, has there been a better midfielder in the world over the past decade? Fantastic player who probably came to England at the wrong end of his career.

For his country he was Maradona-esque, he dragged Germany to both WC 2002 and Euro 2008 finals aswell as carrying them to a semi-final in WC 2006. Extremely talented player who came to England as you said, at the wrong end of his career, think he was one of the greats though.

He hardly got much game time at Leverkusen this season though .

He didn't fit in to our system too well with Lampard there but was a great professional and adapted his game. He was awesome when Lampard got injured in 07 (?) and stepped up to the plate, the game against Man Utd sticks in the memory.

I reckon if the board hadn't decided to let him go last season we'd have finished with a fair few more points.
