So it looks like Hatem Ben Arfa is poised to sign for newcastle. Now, I dont know much about french football, so I have to assume that if the only suitor for him is Newcastle, he cant be very good.

That said, the times I have seen him he looks class. So why newcastle?

I've seen him a few times, and I actually managed to see him live this year

Awesome dribbler, however he doesn't seem to be very good at picking the right options. Also, I think Lyon sold him because of disciplinary problems, and Marseille are probably doing the same. It's a bit like Anelka I guess - nobody wants a troublemaker.

Pretty much spot on, he has a huge ego and a mountain of disciplinary problems, didnt even feature for Marseille towards the end of the season.

Expected position: ?? (1st-4th I suppose looking at the odds)

Where you expect them to finish: 8th

Where/what you need to strengthen: Having a permanent lb would be a start, else we're going to have happen what happened when Shorey left last time. Another CB and maybe a replacement for the Moose wouldn't go amiss either.

Who would you like to realistically sign: Realistically I think we'll not get anyone else in before Jan. Even though 50% of the supporters seem to think we could sign half of the premiership as we're a 'big club'...

Overall hopes/expectations: Think last season was a blip and we'll sit mid-table this time around. Love to think we were playoff capable but I think last season was a fluke with what we've got and we'll not get the chance again.

Jesus, that seems to smack of over confidence already .

Only bright point on the horizon is that it took us 5 games to get a win last time around and it wasn't that bad a season in the end.
