Abramovich tightened the purse-strings because the plan when he took over was for the club to be self sufficient by around this season or next. That doesn't mean the money's not there still.

And r/e Mikel - why should a player's initial ability construct their entire career? Makelele started as winger/forward, and yet he was/is one of the greatest holding midfielders the world has seen. Also, if you watched Mikel's play this season and read the subsequent article i linked, he's playing twice as many forward balls as before, pinged a few stunning assists so far this year.

Legit question, not bitching. How many defence spliting passes has he played this season? Genuinely don't know as I have hardly seen him play but he must be dramatically improved if he is playing as well as you are saying.

Nothing short of what we deserve, played well that first half, much better than I expected. Have to say though the ref bottled that decision, Ivanovic should have gone for that foul. There was no way the covering defender was going to get close enough to Welbeck to stop him from shooting there.

Getting what we deserve, yes we've got a lot of our core players out and have had for various parts of tis season but also in reality the replacements haven't stepped out to the plate.

Not even particularly surprised at that result. Our midfield of Ramires and Zhirkov has looked awful every time so far, even made Lucas look good for christ sake The only thing that bailed them out before was Alex+Terry. Mikel and Cech are the only players who can come out of that with any credibility what so ever.

The annoying thing is Chelsea fans have been warning of this ever since preseason where we sold half our midfield and let Carvalho go. Just 4 first teamers injured and we have to have Zhirkov in Midfield and Ferreira at centreback, look at the bench and you've just got Kalou and some teenagers, not really good enough tbh.

MOTD should be interesting tonight, will Hansen et al concentrate on how bad Chelsea were with a token sentance saying we did well, probably followed by Mary Poppins saying "They will be ok".

No way did I see United being a point closer to Chelsea after yesterdays result, that is 3 out of 13 games that Chelsea have lost now, if that form held true for the season (but won't) we are talking 8-9 defeats. Regardless, if United could find some real form we could really push Chelsea, alot hinges on getting Rooney and Giggs fit again though.
