Hasn't he been here since being a kid? Some sort of refugee who claimed asylum. He was brought up here and educated here, I imagine he considers himself to be English.

Or are you saying foreigners shouldn't be allowed to become citizens? Also as explained previously, all the examples you gave had dual nationality, they did not need to apply for residency. Also what's with the Spain stuff? You started supporting them like you went from Everton to Barca? :p

What spain stuff? :S

I notice how you never replied to my Fabrice Muamba comment. First you claimed "the fa dont pick non english players". When you were then proved wrong by not just me but other people, you moved the goal posts to "people with no english blood" so how are you going to move the goal posts this time? FA Only pick non english africans? :D

Missed the Muamba one,

thought he had dual nationality but dont know. But one example out of the thousands we could have. Seems strange that they would do it on that one occassion and it not been done for any other "citizenship'd" players by england or the other FA's.

Would have to look into it more.
And Im not moving the goalposts. If you going on about the Glen Johnson comment I acknowledged my mistake but stated the player doesnt matter. The fact was that it was poor defending and that was the main thing with the comment (wasnt an attack on the player, it was an attack on the defending done by the player).

edit:
Forgot to add. Muamba hasnt got a full international cap and only played at the "under-x" levels.
Dont know if the agreement used in the past is in relation to full internationals only. Be interesting to find out but guess we wont until the guy good enough for a full cap.

Also, what level is it they can play up to before they can no longer be called up by another country.

I know that u-19s used to be able to be called up by another country (ie you can play for u-19 england, but then be called up by Italy if you were a duel national).
Can u-21's "switch" countries? cant say im sure. Got a vague thought that the ruling is something like "U-21 can be called up by another country unless they played in a major tournament" - which would rule out a Muamba switch to his native country

Nah its right, im just being pedantic. I know what you mean. Players who have been here for 5 years and qualify on residence are totally different to people who whilst born in a different country, are raised here and class themself as english.

Dont know what you mean about Glen Johnson though, youve confused me lol

Nothing like confusing :)
trying to figure where you got goal post moving from and could only think of that :s

Still, muamba came over when he was 11yrs old if wiki is correct. Not sure what to think about him playing for England

He considers himself English, and spent as much time here as his home nation. But he still "citizenship'd" his eligability for the national team... hmm.
Tough one that. But think many would deem him English, unlike a player that comes over in their 20s and qualify. These will see themself as their original nation if asked for nationality i reckon.

personal i'd say he's not english, he wasn't born here and has no heritage here so shouldn't be eligable to play for us, otherwise whats next? every time any country sees the next 7 year old leo messi pay his family to move to thier country to play football?

If a family ever paid to move then action should be taken... infact I believe inside FIFA rules it is illegal for "compensation" to be paid to a family for a young player to come over to your team (so this should follow for countries - as the player would then need a good team to take them on). May be wrong here, but sure I read that long ago.

And I think i have to agree, and stand by my initial view, that unless you linked by heritage you shouldnt be allowed to play for England... but to be honest I think that should be the case for all teams and that Citizenship should not allow any player to play for another country they dont have bloodties to.

So my brand spanking new Spain shirt has just arrived. I gleefully tore the packaging off it, only to find a brown stain on the back :S Is someone trying to tell me something?

"Hi darling, your place or mine?"

Zlatan is having marital problems and Pique is just comforting him as any friend would. Zlatan and his wife are close to Pique and his Bollywood girlfriend. This picture was actually taken weeks ago afaik and guess who leaked it to the press? Some guy from Marca. Now of course, if it had been a pro Barca paper that had leaked a photo of Ronaldo and a teammate, it would be claimed as dirty tricks because of the run in for La Liga
