The game was winding down when he came on anyway.

It was 3-0 when he came on, three more goals were scored in the last 30 minutes of the game ... that is one heck of a wind-down! Not trying to make up facts to suit previously stated opinions perhaps?

I would also point you to the way Capello greeted Heskey when he came off the pitch. He is rated by people in the know, sorry you don't see it/don't want to see it.

if you look at Rooneys playstyle, Defoe would be a best partner for him in my opinion.

whether he is better than Heskey, is not up to me to judge - I don't really follow english footy all that much :)

Sorry Im with Turambar on this one, Id sooner Heskey started than Defoe.

Yes he missed a couple of chances that a striker should really bury but his general team play is a lot better than Defoes and he makes far more room/chances for the team.

The only reason Defoe has scored so many coming on as a sub recently is because he has come on against teams who still think they might snatch an equaliser, giving him room to use pace to counter. Tonight Croatia were already dead and buried, defended deep and Defoe did nothing, his link up play is rubbish.

Heskey>Defoe as a starter in an England team.

Not really bothered now anyway, i doubt Heskey will still be getting picked come summer 2010. He'll have to fend Big John out of the Villa squad first :p

Be interesting to see how players develop in the meantime. Got loads of players who have improved a lot lately and will hopefully get even better. I hope Clarton and Milner get a bit more time to play in the last games.

Has Carlton Cole had a proper run out with Rooney yet? Could be worth a go in the last two games.

Carlton Cole aint international quality yet!!

England played well, I found it very distrubing at the england fans booig eduardo, infact I felt a bit embarrased for them fucking tools.

Heskey is an excellent foil for Rooney, as he was for Owen. Michael Owen will be in the england squad if he starts scoring goals which gives us rooney, heskey, owen and defoe, all three of those guys can play off heskey. That gives us good options.

Defoe is just a goal scorer. Goals are important, but if you have a player that can create 2-3 chances for others then surely he is worth a spot over somebody who might score a goal every game?

It is the old Peter Beardsley enigma all over again. He didn't play half as many games as he might have for England because the press were always pressuring the England manager to pick somebody who had scored a few more goals in the league.

And it cannot be expressed how utterly woeful Defoe was this evening.

I thought it was brilliant when Eduardo should have got a penalty and didn't, the look on his face said it all. Maybe a lesson learnt now?

I was just thinking the same about Eduardo. I was trying to work out where all those English Arsenal players are, then remembered you have one :m00:

You need to resit last year, back in kindergarten, and learn to count. There are a lot more home brewed talented player than just Walcott.

As for Heskey, he did the job I think he was asked to do. Shame he missed a couple of easy chances.

You want to try tuning your telly in. He missed two one-on-one's, one to a good save and one he could have done better with, but his general play has been excellent.

He has put in quality balls for the rest of the team and closed down the opposition. Some goals would be nice but that isn't why he's in the team.

Spot on

I just want Patrick Vieira to slap his 14 inch cock on Heskey's face for missing his chances.

defoe was shit but not as shit as heskey.

Rubbish, Defoe didn't do anything at all in the game. He stood around waiting for the ball. And when he got a ball over the top in the last few minutes he miscontrolled it and it went out for a goalkick.

Liked this part "The Spanish Foreign Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, said “we have no issues with Torres’ gender. We may be filthy racists but you can’t accuse us of sexism”."

Actually that was the not funny part
