Really stupid last goal from porto. How can the ref, take the ball, give it to porto while fabianski has just turned around and was walking to his goal. He even didn't raise his hand till the ball was almost in the goal...

I actually think that it should have been allowed because you are able to take a quick freekick unless the referee says that you are not allowed too. When you look at it Arsenal had the following problems:

1) Fabianski was to blame for giving the ball to the ref. He should have taken the yellow card. Infact he could have avoid a yellow card if he just dropped the ball at his feet instead of giving it to the ref as that would have given him more time to get in goal if he didnt do what he done in 2).

2) Fabianski was to blame for turning his back on play and shouting at the linesman when it was a clear back pass

3) Sol campbell was to blame for standing ages with hands on knees instead of getting goal side and standing infront of the ball, and not reacting till too late.

4) Vermalean is to blame for just walking back slowly instead of getting back into position. (as was the other Arsenal players)

With all that said, I was surprised the ref allowed it, BUT, if this freekick was taken quickly anywhere else and it led to a goal there be no debate. It does not matter where the freekick is the same rules fit.
This means that unless the ref specifies that you need to wait for the whistle then you have the right to take a quick freekick and so glad it was left to stand

Was hoping Arsenal get a result, but tbh that was a shite game in general. Both sides fouling each other. Fabby took a battering which a shame to see. Arsenal didnt really create anything and were back to trying to pass it in when they had some chances towards the end on the edge of the box.

Certainly makes the 2nd leg interesting.

As for that goal, you would never see arsenal scoring a goal from a quickly taken free kick, would you Soze?

Fabianski with more experience would not have given the ref the ball maybe kicked it away in mock disgust and took a yellow.

I remember a certain Thiery Henry scoring a goal after Pires had taken the free kick from about 10 yards away from where it shoud have been taken and the ref doing nothing about it. Hes a bit of a cheat that Henry isnt he!!

Just so im clear i don't care that Porto scored a quick free kick it was a good call. What i do have a problem with is the refs involvement. If Porto had got the ball themselves fine but the ref chased it and gave it to them like he wanted them to take it quick lol.
