If you're more than 12 hours late with taking a pill, you will need to start from the beginning, and won't be protected for another 7 days.

how sure are you of this part? also do you have any website links etc to back this up?

Truly the scariest thread I have read on here for some of the pure ignorance :)

Naetha has the best advice tbh but still go see a Dr etc and do some proper research yourself - its your lives - DO NOT LISTEN TO FH ON THIS ONE (although that would mean you would have to listen to me telling you not to listen to them...hmmm quandry...) DO NOT LISTEN TO FH EXCEPT FOR THIS BIT!

Some good points on here though but always err on the side of caution. I was in a relationship with a girl for 5yrs who was on the pill and we only ever had one scare. Have been with my wife for 6yrs - she also used the pill and we have never had problems - but this doesnt mean you won't.

The simple scary example I can give you - I was sat talking with the ex once, just as she was due to take her pill - she took it, coughed a couple of moments later and didnt even spot the fact the pill shot out of her mouth and landed across the room - luckily I was sat right there and saw it - always make me wonder what if..

Also S.T.I's need to be considered - even if you dont think they do - who is to say either of you havent picked one up from a previous partner - and thats something you really really dont want to go have checks for dude.....

yeh but no fucker listens to me, except lamp of course.

the fact you continue to ask here just shows you trully dont give a flying fuck.

OT has never been the best place for 100% accurate answers regarding serious subjects i.e. the chances of creating babies.

but what ever, go crazy, make babies then dont feel bad if people laugh because you didnt take it seriously enough in the first place.

indeed it was. if really did care about your gf getting pregnant or not, you wouldnt be asking the most serious questions you may ever need the answers to on FH. no one knows 100% what is right and wrong, no one is qualified, people just know what they know.

family planning clinnics and docs know what they are talking about.

FH (generally speaking) doesnt. unless you want to know how many bill gates it takes to change a light bulb or who framed roger rabbit ;)

how would your gf feel if you said this after sex "so i got all this info off a bunch of strangers on the internet. im sure its right... so whats for breakfast?"

leviathane said:
nah w/o condoms is fine, ofc it's always gonna be safer with em, but if you feel confident enough then it's fine to skip em. Just hope she's clean of sti's n such xD

and this is the type of advice im talking about. if you cant see how rediculous that is then god help you, seriously :)

Did I say Naetha... I erm meant to say Tris...

Nah there are some valid points on here - just mixed with a load of urban legend and hokum...

But as Tris does say - not the best idea even asking on here - after all we are all just looking for that golden comedy quote..I probably even wouldnt bother asking how to boil water here tbh (no offense peeps ;) )

I give a flying fuck about this whole situation very much (but oh wait - you know me more than I know myself...). Hence why I was up to midnight last night discussing it with my gf, hence why we're planning to see the GP who is in control of her pill. I care a lot about this, not only for me but also for my gf.

Indeed no-one knows what is right or wrong, then again I never asked for factual information. I asked for thoughts & opinions. You really think i'm going to let 'random X' choose my life for me? Opinions help me to build a perspective of my own. And for those that were very helpful in this thread (i.e. Tilda, Naetha and some others), I took aboard their comments and studied them.

Personal experiance can also be useful, like knowing the facts. I'm sure Evzy's personal experiance made him think a lot about the situation, maybe as much as knowing the facts.

So please don't come here telling me I don't give a 'flying fuck' because you are just being a total asshole. 'Continuing to ask here'? I merely opened up a conversation and allowed people to put their thoughts & opinions into action.

Now get the fuck off this thread. Pu-lease.

If you miss 2 or more daily pills during a cycle, or you are late starting a new cycle of pills, you should use a back-up method of birth control until you have taken seven consecutive pills.

so what i said may be true, untill you miss 2 or more.

bahumat said:
also if she misses one day i think she has to take 2 the next (if she remembers).

This of course assumes that you take the pills at the right time and don't miss any. If you're more than 12 hours late with taking a pill, you will need to start from the beginning, and won't be protected for another 7 days.

Emergency Contraception
If a condom breaks or you forget to take your pill a few times this month, there is something you can do, but you need to act quickly. You can take emergency contraception (EC) within 120 hours (5 days) to help reduce the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent. However, the faster you act, the greater your chances are of avoiding an unintended pregnancy; you should try to take EC within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. One dedicated emergency contraceptive product is available today. It's called Plan B and it currently requires a prescription.

Emergency contraception works by inhibiting or delaying ovulation, preventing fertilization, or preventing implantation of a fertilized egg. Unlike medical abortion drugs, emergency contraception does not interrupt or terminate an established pregnancy; it prevents pregnancy from occurring. That means if you are already pregnant, EC won't work. Emergency contraception can cause nausea or vomiting for a day or so, but you can ask your provider to prescribe an anti-nausea medication. It's also not foolproof - it only reduces your chance of pregnancy by 75 to 89 percent.

Emergency contraception is for emergencies. In other words, it is not a reliable long-term birth control method and it does not protect against STDs - before or after its use. It also does not protect you during future acts of intercourse, so it is important that you use another form of birth control if you have sex again. Generally, emergency contraception costs $55 and upwards (the price includes examination, pregnancy test, and pills); costs can be less, or even nonexistent, at family planning clinics and health centers. To find a provider near you, you can call the Emergency Contraception Hotline at 1-888-NOT2LATE.

QUESTION: I take a birth control, but forgot to take it yesterday. Today I had unprotected sex, but he pulled out. I realized an hour later that I forgot to take the pill. Could I still be pregnant? (July 20, 2004)

ANSWER: All birth control pill come with an instruction sheet; this is found in every pack of pills. The instruction sheet tells the user what to do should she miss a pill. Most pill users are instructed to take the missed pill as soon as you remember and take your next pill at your usual time. This may mean taking two pills in one day. Depending on how many pills were missed, back up protection is sometimes recommended; however, it is important that you read the instructions enclosed in your pill pack to determine what you should do.

If you have additional questions, it is recommended that you speak to your clinician. For other pregnancy-related questions, please see our pregnancy FAQ link.

Personally, I think FH is a perfectly good place to ask for advice, especially on topics that you might not feel happy asking your GP about etc.

All you have to remember is take that advice witha pinch of salt.

A sobering example is Gamblor's thread on chest pain - he asked what he should do, a few people just said push through it, a few people told him to ask his doctor etc. As it happens this advice didn't save him and he died a few weeks later, BUT what if he hadn't asked at all? How many people worry about the little things that in fact turn out to be big things that they just didn't know about?

There've been a couple of threads as well about people with lumps in bits there shouldn't be - if those people went to the doctor on the advice of FH people and got things sorted out before it was too late, then its much better than them not having gone at all because they thought they were worrying over nothing.

You just have to remember to take any advice with a pinch of salt - even if someone claims to be a family planning doctor, I'd back their advice up on the NHS website or somewhere else reputable, but often posting a thread on here can kick start something that maybe you wouldn't have done.

One thing to really take into account with information on the internet with regards to legislation or drugs etc, is make sure its relevant - there's no point in taking legal or medical advice from US sites if you're in the UK as the laws and prescribing regulations are different.

Also with regards to the family planning stuff you wouldn't have found out about the more anecdotal stuff, such as how it effects your moods etc.

The main thing, is never RELY on advice on t'internet, but it can be a good way of getting advice on what the next steps should be.

Apologies for length, girth and circumlocutoriness.

and do you not think that is a problem? if people start trusting random strangers over a skilled and qualified professional, all hell is gonna break loose.

And now if you would read the rest of my post, I would appreciate it.

This is one of the main problems with t'internet and forums is when people don't read anything as a whole, or take comments out of context.

I am with Tris tbh - If you have a problem go to people who are trained and can give advice - asking on here is more dangerous than it could be - the example of Gamblor (Saw the simpsons episode the other day that he always had in his sig - I had never seen that one before - did actually make me stop and think about him and how its funny that someone you dont know can still touch your life in some way) - what if Gamblor had been told just to ignore it by FH peeps - granted someone with common sense more than likely will pop up - but thats all it is - its not an educated assesment of the problem - google is more likely to be of use than this forum tbh - and any opinions that are backed up on here probably came from google anyway.

I understand FH can be handy purely for opinions on stuff but when it comes to anything to do with health or any serious matter - go to people who know.

I could give you serious advice all day on Credit information and Fraud within the banking industry but thats what I do for a living, anything else - its just opinions and hersay.

p.s

So how do I boil this water?

Ah, but the question you asked had already been answered in my post, hence me ignoring your question, and asking you to read my post in its entirety.

At the end of the day though its all about common sense. Unfortunately, there are some people with little or no common sense and who will be naive to believe anyone. But these people will believe what is told to them regardless of whether its their best mate (also unlikely to have medical training but likely to offer similar advice to what has been found here) or if its some faceless person on the internet.

It's like the Frank campaign with drugs - its so much better that people can find out about drugs etc than have no information whatsoever.

Examples like Leah Betts, where she took ecstasy, had heard the rumours about people dying of dehydration and had drunk herself to death. If she'd been better informed that there's more to it than that, rather than specific medical advice, then it is likely that her death would have been avoided. Its better to ask and get a variety of opinions and advice that you can then discard or take, as you consider appropriate, than not talk about it at all.

And at teh end of the day, was it not you, sorry chris- who asked advice about something on FH the other day? It may not be medical or legal, but places like this are still an excellent place for advice, you just need to take it all with a pinch of salt and follow your common sense.

right, but how does he know what advice is appropriate? if he knew what was right or wrong and id assume he never ask.

the only way you only your advice is appropriate on a matter you know nothing about is speak to people who know exactly what is correct.

advice on something like this and advice about what to do because you found your gf shagging a dog is different. in the second instance then you can decide what is appropriate advice.

Thats why coming here is a bad idea - not only could the person giving the advice have a lack of knowledge or common sense or the subject - but also the original poster may lack the common sense to know whats correct and whats a load of twaddle - we don't know each other enough to say who can be trusted with regards to statements no more than we can know if the person we make those statements to will take them with a pinch of salt.

Always best to refer people to those who do have experience in a particular subject and not guess the answer ourselves imo.

I think its safe to say the most sensible option is vist your GP. Some people need to read this before they actually take the step.

But who do you know enough to give you informed, impartial advice that you would be happy to ask about almost anything? My guess is nobody, so I state again, its better to come here and ask questions, than stew by yourself not knowing what's going on and deciding not to do something.

At least you can make an informed decision. I just think its better to ask, than not to ask.

Google is more likely to give you some informative information than O-T ..
