DO you seriously believe that Diablo is competition for SWTOR? Diablo II was proper shit in my opinion, so I didn't pursue the franchise/brand, but a lot of people seem to like it, so...

Yes I believe it is competition I think some people who don't understand Diablo don't know how huge this game is going to be.

And lets face it Blizzard can shift a huge amount of games based on their reputation alone.

That being said roll on 22/12/11 which is good for most gamers as the big games are out in November which gives us time to complete.

Diablo is going to be huge, but lots of people play RPGs now, and lots of different tastes are around. One game being successful won't prevent others from being just as successful..

I'm sure Diablo, SW, GW2 and any other up and coming release will have lots of interest when they start being sold...it's how the devs treat it after then that matters imo.

I wouldn't worry about Diablo as it has a massive following and Blizzard have a track record. Bioware on the otherhand are owned by EA and have several Mythic employees from what I've heard, that worries me.

SWTOR looks proper shit in my opinion.. but these are just opinions rather then looking at the fact that Diablo is one of most recognisable and popular game franchises out there. It's a direct competitor of SWTOR (which I again solidly think will flop) and only a fool would not acknowledge this.

This release date is so moronic that I can't fathom what type of acid they were on when they decided it.

i think they are going to attract completely different types of players so i dont see any sort of direct competition going off between the 2

SWTOR will not flop i think they will easily attract the 2 million estimated subs and possibly more as always the first 3 months will determine the future of the game

yes it could flop but then again so could diablo you would be a fool not to acknowledge that.

time will tell lets wait and see i wont be playing diablo i have no interest in it :)

Maybe not flop, they just all want a piece of the 9million subs that WoW reports so aim too high, with the focus purely on box sales rather than building a game from release onwards.

if this is the last subs based mmo then indeed the golden age has ended something tells me subs based mmo will be around for longer yet the f2p model just isnt up to scratch yet Global agenda is probably the best out there atm for F2p

Why? because you have to have a real life over Christmas? :)

Don't blame EA for that, blame yourself... ;)

I'll just point to what happened last year around the 22th in much of (Northern) Europe and point out that releasing stuff 1 day before most of Europe's postal service takes 4+ days off is in the middle of Christmas sending frenzy is .... moronic.
With a little luck - then many people will not get their physical copies until mid-January.

And yes - because I have a real life, I now have the possibility of having 2 pre-order CE editions I perhaps can't get and which will be force cancelled unless I can make special arrangement with the store to keep my order for 7 days and not 48 hours.

However, this looks like nothing but an attempt to push this game within the calendar year (which spells problems because if they need to push it that hard at the very last moment of the year, it's not done) and to seriously limit how many will actually be able to get on servers at launch. It seems the 'quest' for a smooth launch is to not only use shading on the servers but to seriously limit how many they think will play.
Plus it's too close to Christmas to have any effect on the shopping, so that's not even a logical reason for the date.

And then not to pull in the seriously questionable 'restocking' reason for delaying launch in the EU by 2 days. 'Oh but EU usually restocks on Thursdays'. :twak:. No, bad Bioware. Shops restock when they get something major. It's like they think we're oblivious over on this side of the pond so they can pull their marketing-BS excuses without them being transparent.

I had a lot of trust in Bioware going into this project, but right now between the release date and how they've handled the EU in general - the game might (or might not) be good, but Bioware as a company - moronic.

ive emailed game to find out what the crack is regarding delivery and if its possible to make sure my pre order can be in my local store should they not be able to deliver.

dont forget tho guys the pre orders will get access to early start by up to a week or so ususally 3 days, so there should be the option to dl the client in your SWTOR account

we should still get to play early just the possibility of missing out on our CE goodies to after christmas, im not making excuses for bioware ill be pissed as fuck if they dont deliver on promised date but at least ill get to play.

I agree with this tbh, seems a bit of a weird date. People will be mega pissed if it's delayed with xmas post.

And people who will buy as a gift for others...would need to leave their shopping till the last minute to include this.

Why? They can't do the other shopping one day and then pick up the game some other day? :eek7:

Sheesh...

In Britain, our shops are open all the way up to and including Christmas Eve. Is it different elsewhere?

Same here, you can pretty much get anything until 23rd, then the shops open on 26th as usual.

I'd blame the postal service of your country, not a company that is looking at the worldwide picture. Especially if something that's supposed to come 22nd-23rd, only comes in january :eek7:

Being on the receiving end of late presents when i was a kid i didn't take it to hard, just meant i had more to look forward to.

Spoiled kids might get pissy about it though, but they should just get a whooping for it any way..

Rating: teen.

Content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Mild Language, Sexual Themes, Violence

I think we can rule out the kids from the equation. Teens are pissed off anyway, so f*ck em.

*On a completely unrelated note; that content description is pretty much my santamas wishlist :D

My gf for example generally has her shopping done long before this date, and would only do this if she knew I really wanted the game.

And, tbh, as I do really want this game, I tend to pre-order and buy it myself rather than hoping someone will get it me as a gift. Non-gamers tend not to keep updated on the must have titles and generally go for the stuff that looks pretty on the shelf :p

My family at least, tend not to be the sort that say "I want xyz for xmas", and prefer to surprise each other with gifts.

Xmas post around this date is terrible, lots of people waiting for it to be delivered by mail may be dissapointed. Personally, if I were buying a game for someone else, I'd have my shopping done around the beggining of December as I'm only paid once per month, so would go for a game that's out at that time.

Must have titles according to whom exactly? :)

But if you don't tell your family what you want they don't know what to get, so wish lists are handy.
