After driving an M3 I can guarantee you'll never go back to turbos again. Large naturally aspirated six cylinder engines = teh w1n.

There was a VW Corrado G60 in the paper the other night, I fancied one of those but apparently they aren't that fast.

I may go the way Rubber Bullets is going and get a VW Golf VR6.

Just noticed this post, oh mama do I love M3's. See them around here in Tampere, Finland too. Damn sweet... although I myself would maybe prefer an M5. Lovely 394 hp BMW, wouldn't mind.

Most people's reaction to seeing a BMW:

'Nice car!.....dick'

Apologies to any BMW owners here (I might get a 530 Diesel estate next year), but its true

My reaction to seeing a Mercedes.
"Looks alright, wonder what old fart owns that one."

Yeah... BMW 535i, even as 1990 model, still turns people's heads. Nice black and all, excellent condition to say the least.
Love it.
M5 is still my number 1 dream car.

I wouldn't mind one of these:

Mercedes scare me though. I asked for more information about that car because I was bored one day. I expected them to send me a few print outs or maybe a brochure about it, not a 60 odd page hard-back book full of pretty pictures about that one model, and a seperate book on the prices and optional extras.

It made me feel guilty I'd asked for it.

Oh, ffs. Okay, I own an MX-5 which I know isn't in the same class as many of the cars mentioned here, but having a soft top for the last year has made me a real car snob. Nowadays if it isn't a convertable then I couldn't be in the least bit interested. Frankly, I look down on every car unless its a Ferrari, an old classic or another convertible (not including four-seaters or MGFs.)

But my point is, can anyone pinpoint the year they stopped making cars with any sort of character? For the last 20 years cars, ALL cars, have been stupidly dull box affairs.

Look at this recent advert for the Mercedes SL Class, for example:

mercedes.jpg

(Please skim over the amusing Something Awful tags. I couldn't find the original ad.)

This is a perfect example of what I mean. At the top we have a class car. We can see that over the years Mercedes-Benz have systematically removed any style, chracacter and grace the SL Class possessed, leaving us with an ugly, angular, run-of-the-mill shit heap that has a profile like my old 1989 Montego. In fact, all modern cars have profiles like my old Montego.

SL Class - The SL Stands For 'So Long'

But Mercedes are certainly not the only ones. They just happen to have run an ad campaign which demonstrates my point. Look at the BMWs posted in this thread. BORING AND UGLY AND SO, SO BORING AND UGLY.

FFS. I swear, if I had a stupid amount of money I'd pay someone to buy me an old 1930 Studebaker and make it comfortable with a big, modern engine for me. I'm so pissed off.

MAKE CARS LIKE THIS AGAIN, YOU BASTARDS!

Its all a matter of where you are in life Summo, as to what is good and bad. It's probably sufficient to say that everything is equally good and bad :)
Example.
My dad has a BMW 528 ( i think). Its a W reg , all leather and all that bullshit. Some one could buy that and say " look at me, i own etc blah blah". But he had it from new, hes bored shit lesswith it. Get my meaning? Its all relative.
My opinion of BMW's is that they are , after they are a few years old, all wankers cars tbh. Baseball cap obligatory, proper towny mobiles.
But if a towny is your idea of top fashionstement, then theres no problem.
Its all relative i suppose. :)

That's why I think I can get away with an estate, cos its more of a lifestyle car than a poser's car.

I drive an Audi A4 1.9Tdi atm, its an excellent car (1998), I might go for an A6 estate instead of the BMW, who knows. I did have a look at the new Volvo 4x4 the other day, fuck me I was tempted.
