Corrado VR6. It's significantly more agile and better to drive than the Golf, and there's loads of room in it. It's only a 3-door, but the benefits over the Golf outweigh that, imo.

Oh, and I wish BMW would just fucking fire Chris Bangle before he fucks up their entire product line.

Thanks Stu, and it is certainly tempting.

I know that the Corrado has a larger engine, 2.9 instead of 2.8, and is almost a second quicker to 60mph.

I did think that this would increase the insurance, and I was right, an equivalent quote to the one I got for the Golf is a whole £9 more expensive :D.

The downside is that they are 3 door, and this makes the whole child seat thing difficult. I am quite happy to put the seat in the front, I very rarely use the back seat, but I imagine the Corrado will have apassenger side airbag, the Golf does, and this would have to be disconnected.

The other main problem will be that a good one, for the money, will be even harder to find than the Golf, but now that I have got such a good insurance quote I will certainly try one when I find one.

Thanks again

The extra second to 60 doesn't really sum up the difference though. It's just a totally different car. Golfs for a long time now have just felt... slow. Fat and slow. I remember getting straight out of the Corrado and into the Golf for a test drive, and the difference was unbelievable. Where the Corrado turned in on hard corners, the Golf just understeers and lifts a wheel. Where the Corrado beds in and takes off when you plant it in third, the Golf coughs a bit and kind of eases up to speed.

As far as I can remember (been a few years), it didn't have a passenger airbag. They may have added one for the last ones (Storm) though.
