For the 2nd time they 'lost' my application, after 2 weeks of nagging they finally 'found' it now waiting on some fucking letter with a barcode that hasnt come yet.

Lived off me grand and half savings thats now down to £5, half mind to try get some compensation out of them for it as this has gone beyond a joke, not paid any fees yet mind.

I had payed off my loan 6 years ago. Last year a few days before x-mas i got a bill from them they had forgot to send out a bill 5 years earlier for a fee, so it had just built up was about 100 euro by the time i got the bill, was quite pissed, harrassed them a few weeks after x-mas they finally dropped the fees so had only to pay the original one that was about 15 euros.

Hm, in Germany you only have to pay back half of what you get and if you manage to pay the whole lot back in one part, then you only pay 1/3 of the original loan.

On the downside, I never got any money because my parents apparently are too rich (they must be hiding the money somewhere, cause I never saw that … ). Oh and if your grandma decides to give you a few bucks for "when you're done with uni", then you're f***** as well, cause then you don't get any government help until you used that money

Personally I'm not gonna moan, because I can enjoy my studies and live a rather happy life, but generally the government isn't really doing enough in the field of education. By that I don't just mean helping young people financing their studies, but also equipping universities.
Luckily our university has a really committed lecturer (correct word?) and as we're applying EU norms for applications (Master of Arts in Conference Interpreting) we're getting some money to renew our interpreting installation. Funnily enough, even without the modernisation it's the biggest one in Europe (for 300-400 students … could also be less, maybe 200-250 ), according to the brochure, so I don't want to know what kind of crap other universities have.
So basically instead of having a government that pays for the future tax payers, we have to rely on European money and the private initiative of lecturers.

over here we had a really great student loan system, loads of ways you can pay back less than all of it, even a chance of not having to pay it back at all if you study is (and you go to work after school) in a field that the government wants to push along, such as teachers for small town schools etc.

but now since apparantely there is a recession, they decided to change their policies. and as such, we have people who are almost done studying something they didnt originally want to study, who have to pay back their student loan on the shitty pay they will be getting when they go to work. a loan they only took to get by, a loan that they were not supposed to have to pay back.

Fucking 12:30 and student finance call me giving me the same half-arsed crap they've been serving me for the past month(s) after losing my applications, amazing that the letter I was told two weeks ago was 'immediately on the way to me' has only just been sent. Thanks you bunch of fucking *****, an extra week in Cheltenham so I can finally get this shit sorted, how can these tarts still have jobs?

still not got loan yet? bugger mate that's shit. I know how you feel though. First year i didn't get loan stuff sorted until dec 20th. Man i had an amazing time in Australia that year, 2 loan installments in the space of like a week or 2 xD

Keep nagging them mate it's the only thing you can do. Even though it's an expensivo 0845 number to ring.
