So to distill what Ctuchik and Lubbock are saying:

1) Star Fleet technology is full of bugs, probably never should have got beyond beta.

2) There is plenty of eye candy.

Yep, sounds like a good basis for an MMO :D

where did i say that? :(

Looks like they are aiming for relase third quarter next year.....this must mean sometime in 1 quarter 2010 :)

But yes finally its sci-fi time PPPEEEEEEEWWWWWW PEEEWWWW PEW PEWWWWWW.

So far rumour is playable races "Federation, Klingons and Romulans" so finally three sided war´, unfortunately there wont be much PvP so kind of sad, they will introduce some PvP zones but nothing major.

2009 Release from what I can make out, direct from there Dev team, as they have just been bought out by Atari (Cryptic.)

Don't expect this game to be 'awesome' or even remotely what you would expect an MMO to be... it looks pretty but is using the same engine as they plan to use for Champions Online. The vid's I've seen of the combat are very poor.

Aye its just great potential to suck horrendously, but im desperate for some fun Sci-Fi, i dont like Eve or Tabula Rasa and then theres nothing left, and with no Warhammer 40K in sight, Star Trek is my best chance for a little space shipping PPPEEEEEWWWWW PEW PEEWWWWWW.
But ye Champions Online also seems interresting, just a shame they went away from Marvel Online.

I won't even waste my money on this game i am no fan of Star Trek but this is just like Star Wars there is no way they can capture the feel of Star Trek for the fans just like Sony didn't with SWG.

Thats your opinion, one i certainly don't share. For me SWG captured the "star warsy" feel quite well.

It was like that after the first 6 months once people figured out how to do it.

The first initiate unlock didn't happen for about 6 months and it was quite a while longer until other players even figured out how to unlock the Old Man encounter, let alone even get started on the grind. There certainly were not Jedi running all over the place after 6 months as you claim :p

no it took about a year and a half before Jedis were even almost common, meaning u'd be lucky if u saw one once a day that werent the same person.

when Jedis really started pouring out Lucas arts told SOE to start with the NGE patch.

SOE have done alot of shit to SWG, but you can't blame them for NGE, that was Lucas Arts ordering them to or they'd lose the license.

Have done the 6 month thing, not played since F&F Beta, but still interested in it, not sure Lifetime though.

Someone was saying that at one of the ComicCon they are planning on letting people play the STO Beta and play around with 1 level. Think it was the Vegas one...

Cripes, old thread bumpage, old discussion bumpage :)

I said it took 6 months before the first unlock, even then it took a while for people to figure out the old man encunter. You didn't see the early unlockers obviously as Jedi for months afterwards it's true.

I be in the beta i reckon. would be nice to get in at the alpha stage but hey I wont be fussed if get in CB later on.

Game could have lot of potential and a good tribe would be hard to stop. an entire fleet of starships moving into sectors together and wiping the floor with the enemy. That be a laugh, and be interesting to see what sort of response you could get from people for it :D

If they can get the mix of "ship" and "person" factors correct then I feel they could have a hit on their hands, and this be a game they really should factor in some TV advertisement for in order to pull in Trekkie fans.

they already know trust me.

they knew there was a startrek mmo in the making about a year before it was announced :)

tho most of them arent to optimistic about getting a "true" star trek feel from the game. theres just to much balancing issues for that.

i just hope to god that they ditch stealth in this game... i'm getting seriously miffed at that sort of gameplay now.

Doubt they ditch it, afteral they got all the talk about Klingons having cloaking devices already.... though i doubt on the "personal" level they will have stealth.

The good news though for the "Federation" is that they have cloak detection of a good standard, think it be on the "science" ships. So if you working as a team someone with cloak detection would be amazing - afteral they shouldnt be able to have shields up in cloak :p

gah nerf edit.

Got september edition of PC Gamer - been about 6months+ since got one so thought i be nosey.

ANyways seems there is stealth in the ground battles as well. It be one the skills that "Special forces" type character can get.

It interesting article actually, because it planned that the equipment that you find and use has more affect on your playstyle then your base role. So you could be an engineering officer for example but you find a multitargeting type weapon and you end up playing as a front gunner in order to try damage a mass of enemies all at once.

Really interesting concept in the game, hopefully get a special offer on subscription if I do get lifetime on CO. :D

shrug. luckily i didnt get the 6 month CO sub yet and this certainly made me wanna stay away from STO aswell..

why the hell are game devs being so anal about stealth?

so basically your gonna have klingons and romulan (when they get implemented) assault ships with stealth and the federarion have to rely on fucking science ships to detect them? yeah THAT seems balanced...

sigh, figured something wouldn't go well after playing CO alot and seen what a fucking mess that game is turning out to be...

It's potentially a bit dodgy i have to admit.

In the spirit of the Star Trek universe yes, it's right, but when you take that and apply it to gamers who have generally no interrest in anything but winning, your giving one side a massive advantage and it might mean all federation player wind up with "bot" science ships or they insta-lose.

It'll be interresting to see how they do it, maybe they will find a way to make it work, but it'll certainly be interresting.

<sits twiddling thumbs waiting on STO CB>

I got one of the last LT subscriptions for champions online, was literally seconds after that they sold out of them. So pleased with that, though missed out on 6month subs for the misses unfortunately which was a kick in the teeth, no spare STO beta key :(
