It's sad to say i don't even bother with new MMO's anymore, if i wanna play an MMO i resub to WoW and end up playing it for the best part of a year.

WoW has a ton of content more then enough for any average player except those who don't work and play it for 15 hours a day.

I introduced my GF to WoW almost 6 years ago and she's still playing it today she has tried about as many MMO's as i can get her too but she goes back to WoW everytime. When i ask her why she tells it straight in one word ''Content''.

I think in this day and age you need to release an MMO with content, yes bugs will be bugs and there will always be bugs but content is the number 1 priority these days.

That's why I like this game though tbh. It's very laid back and there's plenty of content for me to chew through at a reasonable pace. The Klingon side of things are unfortunately barron but that's their mistake for launching 2 races to start with. Overall however this is one of the far better Trek games and it has plenty of scope.

Depends what you classify as content tbh, most of the STO content is generic quests with generic gameplay and generic mob ai. That being said, so is most of what passes for content in mmo's.

The actual proper story arcs are kinda cool, but i found even playing the game casually I ran through those in a few weeks. I found some of the early stuff brilliant, then i reached the lvl 20+ content and it all went downhill from there...what a letdown.

A problem i have with content these days is that it's all linear, there is just very little exploration required to find hidden stuff. I just don't find any satisfaction killing ships using the same tactics over and over because they always work every time or the "kill x mobs, follow the glowy arrow" type stuff.

Fallen Earth is a rare exception to that rule, with tonnes of hidden content. WoW has some, but the main game is essentially linear. SWG at release was a good one where you had to get off your ass and go looking for the content, WoW holds your hand and spoon feeds you all the way. I know some people like that kinda thing, but i have had it up to here (raises hand to head height) with boring generic quests and useless mob ai.

STO is rigidly linear....painfully so at times. In a game which is screaming out for vast expanses of explorable space without generic flashing beacons pointing the way, exploration of the unknown being the very essence of Star Trek, it's just such an unmittigated cop-out considering the huge potential for explorable content.

fun of the day..

decided to cancel my account yesterday after playing again for ~5 days (but obviously did not pick the "terminate now and lose remaining playtime" option).

tried logging on today and the fuckers terminated it anyway :D

oooooook....

after alot of fiddeling around i managed to get a ticket going.

what did they do? well they sure as hell didnt fix the bug or whatever it was, they just re enabled the subscription....

so june 9th they would have charged me again had i not checked the account page...

I don't disagree with a lot of that to be honest, however I've only just made commander and am still blowing up Klingons and only really just starting to pick on the Romulans/Remans more. I've just switched from a cruiser to a heavy destroyer and it's a shame really because the destroyer is making it all a bit too easy. I was helping a friend of a friend with the early klingon mission with that ancient weapon and it hit me full blast, put me down to like 5% hull but within seconds the shields were back up and I was fine.

The biggest content problem I have is I've never seen in a "defend ship X" scenario, said ship ever blowing up and the mission failing. That's just stupid. Generally now on those I go and beat the crap out of everything then follow whoever's nearest the guarded ship until they escort it round the level.

you can't fail any mission at all..

like the mission where you "go back in time" and have to help the enterprise against 2 klingon cruisers, i just sat there waiting for the enterprise to blow up but it never happened.

Yeah, that's what I mean, it would be much more interesting if you could actually fuck up.

Completely agree, threat of failure and that imminent panic that the dude your supposed to be protecting might die adds immensely to the overall satisfaction when you succeed.

I realise it's not a popular opinion these days, but i would love to have seen real death penalties. AKA, you die, your ship is blown up and gone forever, you escape in a shuttle, time to buy a new ship a-la EvE. Perhaps even with a level down tacked on to it for deserting your ship.

For me it's the old risk vs reward that makes a game worthwhile, no risk, no reward imo.

Well, you learn something new every day. Had a "no spawn" bug on a planet mission, got fucked off and left and rejoined and it restarted from the point where it fucked up as supposed to the beginning. Bonus tbh as that's pissed me off a number of times in the past.

Not sure if I'm missing something, but have the Klingons now got a full suite of missions for levelling up? Didn't see any reference there but not always watching the updates.

I think they'll be in big trouble if they don't deliver anything for this in season two. It's only a month away though.

Nope, it's beyond a joke already.

The problem you'll probably find is even if they cram the new update with K pve content, chances are it'll all be broken or bugged in some way, every damned bit of it. Then comes the months and months of fixes, more frustrations and more players leaving :(

They have a chance here to turn their wretched game around, if they fail, it will hurt them severely as it's likely the massively diminished number of remaining players are finally losing patience.

i wouldn't call it complete and utter shit. but it sure has its fair share of brown moments when you play klingons.

fed is kinda ok, atleast to level up on for the first time as theres 0 replay value. but there still isn't much of any interesting end game.

Im in the same boat, still watching from the sidelines on ths one.

For some insane reason i STILL hope they will fix the game, but hope and faith are definitely not the same thing.

Me too. Probably won't be playing till they at least do something about the ground combat.

Same as me. I would really like to play in the Trek universe but I'm not paying for what appears to be still an unfinished game with very limited longevity.

That's why I paid full whack up front. If I was on a monthly sub I'd probably give up for a while. So far though it's still got me engaged (good pun eh?) which a lot of games epic fail at and I'm therefore happy to coast through it.

tried one of those STF's for the first time last night.....

What an immense letdown....

you can't use much of any strategy at all other then suicide runs untill the borg "nodes" are dead so the borg's actually die.

so basically its a constant stream of suicide runs for ~3 - 4 hours followed by another hour or two trying to kill the boss who "escapes" back behind a forcefield everytime your team wipes, so you have to lower it again....

and this was with a fairly well balanced team of 2 tac players, 1 engi (me) and one science player who was so busy trying to heal us all he just couldn't help out with any damage at all......

I enjoy it but then I only play it sporadically. If you're happy to be a federation captain and aren't going to go balls out to clock through it you'll probably enjoy it.

If you're a level up fiend you'll get to the endgame in a fairly short space of time and be fucked off.

I have most of my fun just blowing shit up for shits and giggles with an old clanmate from the BarrysWorld days.

Personally I think that will be a positive step forward.
