Very sad. He has been fighting a serious drug problem for years. It pretty much destroyed his career in the end. Shame he never managed to beat it.

I'm curious, since sometimes people say "it's sad, h'd been fighting." etc, like it's a struggle.

Yet sometimes people simply go "He's a junkie."

What makes the difference in your opinion? What changes "Stinky druggie" to a "courageous man fighting to beat addiction"?

To me personally it's the same deal, with weight, alcohol, drugs etc. You quit or you're too weak to get help/quit on own.

Accepting the fact that he/she is addicted and the will to change it.

No respect at all for drug addicts. You know the dangers, if you become an addict. Tough shit, you wont get my sympathy. You will always be fighting it for the rest of your life, there is nothing courageous about that. It would be more courageous if you had said no when the needle was passed around.

Yes true. I guess my post was more to do with Heroin than anything else. But by the same token, all drugs can be addictive. If you dont factor this in when you dabble, then you only have yourself to blame. Do you, to this day, still have the urge for Ket?

Its always there tbh. People think just because its not a physical addiction like smack that its somehow less of an addiction. Addiction is addiction plain and simple

I never got hooked on coke could always take it or leave it, didnt understand how anyone could get hooked on it. Pills i loved then one day just stopped and havent touched since

mephedrome is addictive afaik

Imo it's like thorwyn said; if you realise that it is becoming a problem and you are attempting to get away from the drug then that is a different situation to someone who just regularly takes it without thinking about the harm its causing them.

Most people get addicted when they are young, we never anticipate the consequences of our actions when we are young. AFAIR there are studies that show that we don't develop fully the capacity to do so until our mid 20's

Certainly no one who takes drugs considers that they will be an addict when they start, otherwise no one would. To break that cycle is incredibly difficult and often requires a complete life change. It's never as simple as not stopping as anyone who has never been addicted will crassly put it.

One of the things thats often swept aside amidst the tide of anger is the effect addiction has on people's families. It can be truly traumatic for the poor families of a (drug) addict. I hope you never have to find out first hand.
