Not sure If he will have had time to play it enough, or even if it's out in Australia, but I'm looking forward to the Zero Punctuation review of this considering how much he loved the first one. I see him being disappointed myself. :p

Well I went to the carpet enrichment centre and bought a carpet. Then I bought Portal 2. I knew I couldn't resist :(

It is very nicely polished.

Before saying the big big minus i saw about it, i have to say it's a nice, innovative and suitably different game(from what i've read/heard/saw).

Will have to play through both after there's a bundle of sorts(i'm not that interested in puzzle games).

Now then; DLC.

Yeah. Skins, hats, moustache etc. as a DLC for ridicilous prices(£3 for a tophat? £2 for a flag on your arse?) on LAUNCH is in no way, not one bit, not even remotely acceptable. That kind of already puts me off buying it, just out of some non-meaningful bullsh*t principle.

Even as a moneymaking scheme, it pretty much pisses all over the concept of portal being a gamerfirendlyindymasterpiece.

I can see it as the cashcow it is ofcourse, but it's like selling kids candybars that are chocolaty on the outside and have poo on the inside. It's just not...hold on, gotta get that poocandy idea rolling...

Stephen Merchant is much better than I thought he would be, I was worried it was going to be one long Barclays advert but he's perfect in the role and provides all of the comedy from what I have seen (not that far in).

Love those light path thingies. :)

Played chapter 1 of the single player - it's great - the missus won't let me play it without her so I'm shooting through co-op right now. My mate says there's spoilers but I'm laughing so hard at his retardedness it's worth it. :)

One thing:

the amount of loading screens is a bit of a pain

Consoles. Fucking bane of the PC world.

As for Steven Merchant - funny. Not as good as the lad from Valve who did the trailer tho. He used to work with a mate in Nottingham for the (now defunct) lot who did timesplitters and goldeneye. Nice guy :)

Valve guys say they take 6 hours working through it btw.

Why not? I'd be *totally* with you if it was content that was in ANY way relevant to the experience of the game. It's not. It's hats and other pointless fluff. I think it's an entirely reasonable way for them to make money. If you don't purchase it you miss out on precisely nothing. This is day one DLC done in the *only* acceptable way.

Way to jump to conclusions, but no - I don't think this has anything to do with consoles whatsoever. The first levels include an awful lot of loading in short spaces of time, but later on you get massive sprawling levels and the loading becomes more akin to Half Life 2. I don't know why the first couple of chapters needed such frequent level transitions but it's clearly nothing to do with consoles.

Why not is answered right below what you quoted.

Only thing not said there is that day one DLC in itself is rather poorly, outside some places it's done well; for example total unlocks.

Now it's just "pointless fun stuff you usually get as an achievement prize, with a cost to them to rip off a few dumb people and those with lose credit cards".

I certainly hope gaming isn't going this route.

It's a really good game, enjoyed every moment so far. Testing tested me :)

I did think it was a bit ott to have dlc for gestures, but I don't really care. It means nothing to me.

Yeah. The DLC is unlockable in-game I think, and if people are dumb enough to pay for it then they deserve to be fleeced.

It's much better than, say, Battlefield, where what you unlock actually effects gameplay.

Indeed, it's just like TF2's hats. Totally cosmetic and personally, on the grounds that if they were given free I wouldn't be that interested, I'm fine with them charging for it.

just finished the SP and tbh i think its one of the best games to come out in a bloody long time, ive not had as much fun for ages the puzzles are challenging and sometimes really stumped me.

the graphics and scale of the game are amazing i was blown away on parts of it.

and just when i thought i was near the end i got splattered and a whole new game opened up for me!

truly valve have delivered with this game i dont give a shit about the DLC you dont have to buy it so its neither a plus or minus point its just there to take advantage off and ya know what people wil,l cant knock em for tryin to make an extra buck your telling me you wouldnt?

10/10 anything less than 95% in web/mag reviews does it serious misjustice id even put this up for game of the year currently.

I finished the single player, I liked it but it did have a few issues, mainly the fact that there was never any real 'challenge' - most of the puzzles were fairly easy, and it was practically impossible to die or fail at them.

Consoles. Fucking bane of the PC world.
The Source engine was primarily built for PC's, the constant loading screens mostly has to do with the engine being almost 7 years old now. Hardly the fault of consoles I'd say.

Something that's got me wound up is PSN being down for the last day.
That means no online play, no Steam linking, no record of trophies/achievements and not able to test if running it under a different PSN profile allows for 1 copy to play co-op.

My daughter is also away for another couple of days so I can't play co-op until she gets back. :)

That can't be put as Steam/Valve's fault though.

Just finished it now. What an utterly fantastic ending!

Oh and Steven Merchant is the funniest game character ever!

Totally loved the game was very well done, my only problem was wanting more at the end, same as with any good thing.

I don't understand some peoples issues with the DLC aspect, so what if there's an option to buy what are essentially hats that have no effect on the game play whatsoever? Don't like it then don't buy a useless hat otherwise go ahead!

PC clearly.

What a bloody fantastic game. Just finished it. Never did think Portal would be bettered, and thought the hype wouldn't do justice for 2. It does.

Playing it again with the commentary on, the amount of computing hours(days!) they had to do for the intro bit is astounding, glad they did it though!

One question:

Get this for PC or PS3?
If you get the PS3 one you get the PC one anyway so I guess it depends if you're curious about Steam on PS3

I'm so utterly stuck on this one level! But I'm still enjoying trying to figure it out even if I do think I've done everything possible and Wheatley is just messing with me.

If you have the choice (and the money) then go with the PS3 version.

If Sony weren't being twits and shutting down PSN, I'd have linked my PSN ID to my Steam ID by now. You play the game on the PS3, link the Steam ID, then go to your PC and enter the code that comes with the game. Blam, Portal 2 unlocked on Steam on your PC.
Now you can choose to play on PS3 or PC but not both at the same time on the same ID. When PSN comes back up I'm going to try linking my ID to my main profile, then making a new profile and linking it to my daughter's Steam ID.
Then we'll see if we can play co-op with her on the PS3 and me on the PC. :)

Besides, playing Portal 2 on a big TV is quite something compared to a relatively small monitor. If all else fails, there's the split screen option for side-by-side play on the sofa.
